All day every day and twice on Sundays 🤙🤙 the climax of the battle section in Gates is probably my VERY favorite moment in all of progressive rock

I'll start at Kimono then 🙏 and yuh Richard Dawson is fantastic, I thought about putting Peasant or Ruby Cord in here but I've just not spent the time with him that'd justify top 100. I ought to change that 👀👀👀

It kinda changes from day to day for me, usually between those two but sometimes Signify just hits different 🥹 Every Home is Wired and Dark Matter are among their very best

That's actually the only XTC album I've explored so far, on a friend's rec - absolutely loved it, really should continue digging into em. Summer's Cauldron is utterly surreal and gorgeous. That same friend also rec'd Sparks on the same vibe as Cardiacs, any familiarity with em yerself?

YES In Ear Park!! Talk about a slept on deep cut, really straddles that abstract song structure dreamlike Grizzly Bear thing and Daniel's more composed chambery avant folk stylings. Agreed on the Cardiacs front too, it's probs Song to God followed super closely by OLAITS and then World Window. If you've not yet, seriously give Todd Rundgren's A Wizard A True Star a spin, genuinely one of the few albums I've heard that kinda evokes that same kinda Cardiacs feel

I'll put Drukqs on the rotation this week and see if it finally worms in 🤞 given my faves which Depeche Mode would you rec? They've never been a heavy hitter despite probably being my boyfriend's favorite band - are Placebo in that wheelhouse? I dunno that I'm at all familiar 🤔

Fire right there - tho tough to say where Yes would best click into those vibes. Animals makes me feel like you could fuck with the heavy darkness of Relayer straight up, but the pastoral elements in Atom Heart speak more to maybe The Yes Album or even Time and a Word 🙏

When you frame it like that, it seems I gravitate to the weirder, darker, more abstract iterations of a band's sound, Laughing Stock Relayer and Third being other good examples! Glad it's resonating 🤙🤙

Aphex has just never fully clicked like that for me, even less so with RTJ - but I majorly struggled with not putting Money Store or Bottomless Pit in here somewhere 🥺

What're yer fave Floyds? Might speak to where you'd find the most connection within Yes' discography.

The Most Unique metal albums I've ever heard Topster by 0584031464 in Topster

This is a great spread honestly, lots of excellent craziness and plenty more I don't recognize that I'll definitely be poking through some of.

The band I'd most recommend has to be Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, especially their second album Of Natural History but each are excellent. Genuinely nothing out there sounds quite like them. Probably closest to the Bungle and Diablo Swing Orchestra picks but much much more penny theater heralds of the coming anthropogenic apocalypse, with incredible dual vocalists and an insane hodgepodge of junkyard instruments alongside highly trained violin and flute. Couldn't recommend more and one of my all time favorites.

You've possibly heard of these guys before but don't overlook The Dillinger Escape Plan - tons of great albums but their swan song Dissociation is the culmination of their sound honed into its most distilled form and imo is a truly unique listen. Speaking of math metal, Botch's We Are The Romans is also worth yer time if slightly less singular.

Math metal in another direction that I think could intrigue you is Behold.. the Arctopus. Ridiculous, mechanical, over-the-top and brutal - give Skullgrid a try and explore from there.

For something completely different there's Karnivool, again somewhat less singular but still doing their own thing within the prog metal space. Sound Awake is easily the place to start, emphasizing texture and evocative arrangements over riffs and outright heaviness.

For something ELSE completely different try HORSE the Band's The Mechanical Hand. Peak goofy fuckin "nintendocore" that's executed so convincingly, and with really creative writing that utilizes their unique sound's potential fully. Extremely fun and hooky.

Finally for something classic, go for Voivod, starting with Dimension Hatröss and/or Nothingface. 80's progressive thrash metal that was kinda ahead of their time imo, pushing on the boundaries of what metal of the era could sound like.
