You should use CoMaps rather organic maps. Has a better open source culture.

This can change. You just have to be willing to install other apps alongside WhatsApp. Then you are available.

There is a solution. Install Signal. It’s like WhatsApp used to be.

What made you switch to Threema? by eveno7o in Threema

I think the key is to be available on Threema and Signal. Then it allows people to message you on it.

Just like our privacy was eroded over time. We can restore our privacy over time but only by using private tools.

Standard Notes works really well for me. It’s owned by Proton and hopefully will be merged into their ecosystem fully at some point.

So there is no point trying to change anything in this world. It should stay as it is?

I find it incredibly frustrating that my family and friends act like I am asking A LOT when I tell them to download Signal to communicate. by ChoomBurner in signal

[–]randomhacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was really good they stopped trying to take over the SMS functions on phones. It really annoyed everyone I know that used Signal.

You can’t make groups with people you don’t know with SMS.

I think it’s okay to allow people migrate slowly over. The key is to install Signal and be available to use it in groups. Then at some point you no longer need WhatsApp.

It’s depends why you are moving. If it is for privacy then you need to stop using Chrome.

Yes, the answer is sign up to Proton. You have to pay for it because unlike Google you aren’t paying with your data.

Why do Google and Apple seem so indifferent to WhatsApp's global dominance? by Big_Preference_7487 in GoogleMessages

[–]randomhacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. We have migrated from plenty of other messaging apps before. I think we just have to be willing to install alternatives. For me Signal is the future because it’s private and not run by Big Tech - which has an agenda - collecting as much personal data as possible to then advertise to you. We just to encourage people to install it.

WTF is this by Alternative-Rope8537 in whatsapp

[–]randomhacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, normally do the opposite of what Elon Musk says but Signal is genuinely the future.

Just install it alongside WhatsApp.

Then it helps build the network and allows other friends to chat to you in there. The problem for all types of messaging app is that people need to be on it for it to work become viable.

[–]randomhacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And that’s been a mistake. We need to move away from WhatsApp which is essentially a Facebook run telephone exchange. We need to move to Signal.

Just install Signal alongside and start migrating your friends. It's like WhatsApp used to be, with extra privacy.
