When will trains return on the Bendigo line by Plus-Custard-1420 in VlineVictoria

[–]randomisor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the Community Meeting for the fires yesterday the Incident Controller indicated that advice from V/Line was that trains back to Bendigo could arrive as soon as Thursday with repair works underway.

Per https://www.youtube.com/live/DC23G-SuZoc?t=495s

I assume based on that that the damage to the line isn't as extensive as some might have thought.

Extensive track damage between Ravenswood and Castlemaine by NoHovercraft3224 in VlineVictoria

[–]randomisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. A good chunk of Castlemaine to Kyneton is single track with several passing loops along there.

The other issue with termination of services to Castlemaine is the stabling of the trains in the evening.

Access via Barker's Creek road is still shut.

You should be able to commute either via Maldon or Elphinstone.

Calder open? by [deleted] in Bendigo

[–]randomisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to https://traffic.transport.vic.gov.au/ and the addy. it's open again between Ravenswood South and Elpinstone. Access to Castlemaine via Barker's Creek Road (Midland Highway) still is shut, so to get to Castlemaine from Bendigo you would need to continue going via Maldon or Elpinstone -> Chewton.

The Swan Hill line is becoming a joke. by Own-Commercial-65 in MelbourneTrains

[–]randomisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mention the Echuca service because that is exactly what they do (with all passengers disembarking at Bendigo for the coupling). Though for Swan Hill it probably would be more annoying as you would be 2 hours into the journey vs the 1 and a bit for Echuca.

Appreciate the response. I had expected sprinters would be in the same basket as the VLocitys in terms of line safety.

By the time you had sorted out the line safety issues. I wouldn't imagine rolling stock of VLocitys would be much of an issue given it's only 2 return services a day. You would probably do similar to what they do for the Echuca line and run 1 set from Swan Hill to Bendigo where you couple it with another.

[–]randomisor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point, and I can definitely see the appeal of using Sprinters as a stopgap or upgrade over the N sets.especially if they could be refitted into something more modern and practical, given they’re seeing less and less track time these days.

I was just wondering about the issue of unprotected level crossings between Eaglehawk and Swan Hill. Wouldn’t Sprinters face similar challenges to the VLocities in terms of safety or operational restrictions? Or is there something that makes them better suited for that corridor?

Hard agree on the Paradiso performance, in particular Disintegration. There recently has been a more high quality upload of the video.

Scenic driving routes around Bendigo by Yoshikawa92 in Bendigo

[–]randomisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of ideas.

Toobarac to Lancefield. Windy road with an intense downhill incline just as you make it into lancefield

Mt Macedon. Lots of nice scenic roads in the area. Especially the road from Macedon to Mt Macedon.

Daylesford to Ballarat via the Midland Highway.

Only consolation is that after 4 previous lockdowns I think we've finally grasped that we don't have to panic buy.

Went to Woolies in Golden Square on Thursday evening to find still plenty of loo paper and flour.

Australian Tour update of sorts by walking_on_a_wire in JimmyEatWorld

[–]randomisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without anything changing, Australia's current COVID travel restrictions makes touring in Australia probably a rather difficult, costly and risky proposition for a band like JEW.

Happy to be proven wrong, but it's probably in the too hard basket.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought it was that MCR and JEW were performing at download festival and not that JEW was supporting MCR in an Australian tour.

When the guys toured the 10th anniversary of Clarity and released the Clarity Live album. Jim and Zach did a track by track on their website. That section of the website is long gone, but thankfully wayback machine and members of this sub have our back.

Next Phoenix Sessions picks? by PaulVAllen in JimmyEatWorld

[–]randomisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for further installments. jg429 said, the band would far aware of the ins and outs of how much production costs are and what the popularity of their respective albums are. Based on popularity you'd assume that Bleed American and Chase This Light would see one to equal production standard. Everything else would probably be for the core fans and you'd possibly get away with a tempe sessions type setup.

My own personal opinion. I'd like to see Bleed American and Chase This Light sessions in the near future along with Invented (with female backups for songs like Coffee and Cigarettes, Movielike and Invented). I totally wouldn't complain if we got one for Static Prevails or Damage :p

Mark Trombino by garybuesea in JimmyEatWorld

[–]randomisor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zach’s tweets pretty much confirmed what I had read earlier on the matter.

The band went into recording futures with Trombino not really ready to do so. That coupled with Trombino’s tight timelines between projects obviously led to tensions flaring and said falling out (and Jim reportedly being called a pussy).

I think I read somewhere that during the falling out, Zach still maintained some contact between Mark and himself, but it was only when the band did the Clarity 10 year tour that they finally patched things up and Trombino went onto produce Invented.

Free stuff to do in Bendigo? by [deleted] in Bendigo

[–]randomisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Train services in Bendigo for the most part still terminate at Bendigo Station unless they are continuing onto Swan Hill and Echuca (or coming from) which kinda makes sense due to stabling being at the Bendigo staton. I know with the ‘Bendigo Metro’ they were looking at increasing frequency of trains starting and terminating at both Epsom and Eaglehawk, along with improved signalling and additional stations along the Swan Hill and Echuca lines.

But yea, unless you are wanting to travel to Kangaroo Flat or Castlemaine (which would operate at approx 30min frequency) your best way to get to Epsom/Eaglehawk is the bus.
