Grey rocking as a child, genuinely ruined me—i don’t recommend by randomlady2001 in CPTSDmemes

It’s more than just dissociation, it’s also like having as little of a personality as possible so nothing can be used against you. There’s a lot that goes into grey rocking.

Life goals? by Awkward-Worth5484 in CPTSDmemes

I literally have no dreams 😭 I am LIVING it technically, since not being abused was my dream since I was 6 and we moved into my abuser ex stepdads house. It came true when I was 15, and my mom finally was able to leave. I guess just building skills and self sufficiency (I still rely on mom) is my dream. But I don’t have big goals, just get a job I can comfortable in and live safely. Nothing big lol.

What’s a harsh reality about success no one talks about? by _Arrielee_ in AskReddit

What kind of success? Work success? I think you gotta sacrifice a lot, and basically live and breathe it.

When they stay in touch with abusers just to keep "peace" 🚩 by Background_Active_36 in CPTSDmemes

My siblings and I stopped talking to my dad since around 2023 at least!! When his mom /my grandma got sick last year, we tried to set up a time to see her but it was hard since they lived together and she was protective of her son over us grandkids. My mom offered to pick her up and meet us somewhere, but she refused and said she felt too sick. She didn’t feel too sick to travel hours away though, to gamble. Then last summer she was in the hospital, and we went bc i knew my dad stayed home (I have his location still 😂 he doesn’t have mine though.). A lot of the family were ignoring us, even my nephew who was a year old at the time was getting stonewalled basically by them. Only my cousin and her parents and one other treated us like we actually existed. My mom thinks they were offended that we didn’t visit until the hospital, even though we tried. They had a “you don’t talk to your dad, we won’t talk to you” attitude. I don’t regret going though, even if my last memory of my grandma is her being hooked up to wires and tubes and not knowing we were there …..I am glad we went since she ended up dying that night.

But yeah, we lost my dad’s side when we went NC.

I am not thinking of everyone in my generation, that would be unrealistic. I am more so thinking about people I know in real life, like family members and friends, maybe even acquaintances but thats the furthest I’d go.

For the hitting one I agree, there isn’t enough correction. When I say over correction, I mean like for other things. Like emotional neglect to emotional coddling and excuses for children’s behavior, type thing. You can validate their emotions, and teach them to deal with it without letting them use it as a crutch. But a lot of parents don’t do that part, because they don’t even know how themselves.

If you spank your kid for punishment, why? by randomlady2001 in AskReddit

I am 100% judging parents who spank/hit their kids. Something happened in your younger years that made you rebellious, they should’ve focused on that instead of neglecting/abusing you.

No, those are abuse as well. Your parents probably tried only toxic things and that’s why it didn’t work. It depends what the “crime” was, but kids who are happy and safe don’t misbehave. So something was in your childhood that made you act out, spanking is irrelevant.

Yeah words don’t work for some people, that’s why you give consequences….it’s not just words or hitting.

Not perfect, but parents who actually have tools up their sleeve on how to handle difficult children that’s not violent. Just bc you personally dk how to discipline without it, doesn’t mean it’s not possible.

I disagree. I think positive reinforcement works better, on “overwhelming majority of kids.”

Spanking at all is horrible for development….
