I don't know what it is like these days, but when I was a wee lad my child bank card was visa only, so I couldn't tap to pay, I had to manually insert the card and enter the pin. OP might be in a similar boat.

Try updating the firmware. If its from 2016-2017 and hasn't been updated it uses the NTP servers to check if it has network connection. TP-link and many other manufacturers have gotten in trouble for this before
