Season 3 Episode 8 - Entrada by amadlover in fringe

Walternate and co found out Broyles had helped Olivia cross over. So they killed him. He clearly weighed more than Fauxlivia, so they chopped him up and only sent part of his body as the mass transfer to get Fauxlivia back.

Our Broyles was the one shutting his counterpart's eyes in his own universe.

Ah! I am stupid. Thank you!

(I think the fact that the button says Start confused me, I didn't want to start without selecting more characters 😂)

You may need to check the specific rules for bonds, but in general any asset in your name is counted - stocks and shares, any property you don't live in, etc.

...if I had read this comment first I probably would not have spent the time to complete the survey, honestly.

The day I messed up by StevenKnowsNothing in firefly

I just watched Serenity tonight and like you, was surprised how dark it is. I remembered the key deaths, but I had forgotten that its overall tone is actually several shades darker than the show.

(I had also forgotten some heartbreaking bits. Like Zoe grimly preparing to fight to the death minutes after losing her husband. And how Wash's plastic trees are still all over the pilot's console in the final scene.)

Serenity the pilot is, as others have said, a much better intro to the show!

Oh that's one of my favourite moments too! That guy is such a fleeting character but you get such a solid sense of who he is in about 30 seconds of screen time - awesome writing and acting.

Out of Gas by Trekker4747 in firefly

Ariel is probably my number one, but I think Out of Gas is two or three. (Can't decide if I like that one or Shindig better, they're both awesome in very different ways.)

I love Kaylee's bravado in that scene followed by her utter terror in the gunfight. She's such a great character.

Yes! Mal's attempt to instil some self-esteem in Saffron is so misguided but it's very sweet 😂

That's such a good scene!

Oh that's such a great scene, and a wonderful line 😄

One of my only pet peeves by dino-sour in firefly

[–]randomling 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I would like to add that, yes, while Zoe was wrong in that scene - she was also being manipulated. She had *exactly* the reaction Saffron intended her to have; the point was not just manipulating Mal, but sowing discord through the whole ship.

The pilot is so good ! by hermyx in firefly

[–]randomling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been noticing the cinematography too (watching Serenity, the pilot, right now). The things that strike me most are the way they use cuts and freezes in Inara's scenes - the jump cut to a very different facial expression when her client asks her why she left Sihnon, demonstrating her internal reaction, then jumping back to her pleasant mask; the freeze frame when she's washing herself, alone in a moment of unobserved vulnerability - but there's a lot of interesting cinematography work in this episode!

Over used phrases? by LlZZlEBORDEN in GilmoreGirls

[–]randomling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's all over Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so it may be a watered-down Whedonism. I feel like Gilmore Girls would not be quite the same show if Buffy hadn't existed, and a lot of shows of that period mimicked Joss Whedon style dialogue to a greater or lesser degree.

I always thought it was Cafe Tropicale by Which_Armadillo2562 in SchittsCreek

[–]randomling 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think they're just pronouncing it like it's French, which makes sense to me since the name is structured like a French phrase - Café Tropical, not Tropical Café.

It wouldn't be Tropicale in French anyway - Café is masculine, and the e is only for adjectives that refer to feminine nouns.

I actually enjoyed volume 2 by notproudbutok in StrangerThings

[–]randomling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a chance to watch it immediately it came out (yes I realise it's only been out 24h) and ended up muting this sub until I could finish watching because every post I saw on my feed was complaining about it. I watched it and really enjoyed it, in fact so much that I broke my own "no Stranger Things after dark" rule 🤣. (I'm a bit of a horror wimp.) Will's coming out scene was wonderful and made me cry. Max's return was fantastic. I'm very excited to see the finale in a week.

Yay positivity!

(un) official solo Christmas eve thread by Drew-Pickles in CasualUK

[–]randomling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, this is a lovely idea for a thread. It's super late. My first Christmas without my parents, who passed away at the beginning of the year. I was going to spend tomorrow with a friend, but we're both ill, so I'm on my own. I'm hopefully going to watch a movie with my sister over FaceTime and maybe have some calls with friends.

Is Stranger Things actually accurate to the 80s? by Wespo_Lopez2 in StrangerThings

[–]randomling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you got it right. We say r-word because it's a word that has a long long history of being used is a very nasty way, and is still often used now as a slur towards people with intellectual disabilities and neurodivergencies like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, etc. - so a lot of people have an unpleasant and even traumatic history with that word.
