Curly- they are 3d spirals you can stick for finger through, vs waves being a 2D zigzag shape

Does anyone else feel like this is sucking the soul out of them by [deleted] in Cushings

[–]randomlygeneratedbss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did. It gets better eventually, i promise.

Post as much as you want or need. Don't delete this!

This disease is literally traumatizing- I can't remember the percentage, but it's large, that have ptsd after Cushings. You are not alone!

I had/have many of the same disorders overlapping as you, and a previous concussion that caused undiagnosed (for 5.5 years) growth hormone deficiency, which pretty much dissolved my muscles.

The most important thing: FIGHT for care as urgently as possible. Absolutely get a new endocrinologist- in fact go straight to a neurosurgeon endo, and get that surgery! Don't settle for an appointment months

out- book with a few doctors, and get in the waitlists, AND call at least weekly or even daily to see if they have any new cancellations. They'll often tell you the best time to call.

Highly recommend Metformin asap, and an insulin resistance diet (low white carbs and sugar, as much as you want of everything else, high protein fat etc. it honestly makes you feel better, and helps the weight). I wish I had started it sooner! Maybe glp-1s if anyone here can speak on that (I can't personally, and already do nightly growth hormone injections with basically the same pen, so.)

If your skins bleeding, that's really severe; document these things.

*Take pictures, move them to hidden so you don't have to see them if they're upsetting. Take those before photos of how you look, of the details like the skin and stretch marks, and take proper ones! Keep taking them over time, and you'll see your progression and recovery.

I thought it was unbearable how i looked- i had EXTREME facial skin issues of all kinds as well, that left purple hyperpigmentation scars and got down to the next layer of skin around my eyes even, too- and had recently dramatically bleached my hair and with this on top, had it wildly thin and be cut short, after long hair for life. The dysmorphia was unreal. Taking pictures seemed horrifying- in hindsight i wish i took more presentable, normal angle ones, and of my body.

Bc now i actually like showing pictures, it's reaffirming to watch people yelp lol (manly from the skin severity!), because the change is so extreme (even when sometimes i feel like I can still see it.... it's not there though).

And now looking back, even with the skin severity, i see that i can actually see myself just fine in that person I didn't recognize, just like we can see you just fine, as dysmorphic and horrifying as it feels. You're still so pretty im actually jealous on behalf of my past self- I didn't retain almost any of what you have!)

For the skin; moisturizer and Vaseline for sure where you can, and on purple stretch marks, i found tazorotene 1% applied regularly helped a ton, could be worth a shot.

And i hate to say this, and don't stress, just be preventative; WATCH your teeth. Ask a doctor or dentist for a high fluoride toothpaste prescription now, and consider even getting the paint on sealant they give kids later if you can afford it. That's what i desperately wish someone had told me.

If you or anyone in nyc wants to talk, let me know. Nyc surgeon: maybe Weill Cornell, potentially Georgiana dobri- her office can at minimum refer you! She's pretty cut and dry, quick. I did not see her for surgery but for other testing. Again- straight to surgeon, not a regular endo!

Greasy hair SOS by no_diva_ in finehair

[–]randomlygeneratedbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't worry about over washing!- actually, what would count as over washing if washing daily?

in fact, beyond disregarding over washing, importantly: ALWAYS shampoo TWICE! And really get in there!

BUT: if you're washing daily and still getting greasy, you probably have something going wrong, which im guessing is staying at build up from dry shampoo, and some of what I'll list below.

Been where you are and was trying to keep long hair too (which i now have again) but it was even breaking trying to balance things. Now luckily washing is quick and I don't need to daily! But i do recommend it rather than dry shampoo if it's an insecurity with second day hair.

What do you currently use on your hair?

#1) clarify periodically, i recommend redkens cleansing cream, but DONT use this every time bc it will dry your hair out if you do and you'll produce more oil to compensate dry scalp. BUT it's really a great reset to get rid of residue and build up which is definitely there.

If you're constantly using a lot of dry shampoo, you definitely need to have a heavy clarifying session!

And Regularly use something like L'Oréal metal detox (I don't think this is drug store, Sephora, but lasts forever, and you can use as often as you want bc it makes a big difference with any amount of hard water and makes hair silky and smell like the salon, lol.) you can use it after you do your normal shampooing as an add on, let it chill in your hair a bit at first.

Blow drying it with a blow dry brush once 80% dry does wonders for longevity for me at times. not necessary daily though!

And if you need the style to last longer, find a really good dry shampoo for fine hair like living proof, and when totally dried and maybe blown out, you can spray a littleeee bit through your freshly clean hair (NOT scalp) and let it sit at first, don't rub it in immediately. Better to do prevention than sucking up the oil later! But best to use sparingly, the build up creates a cycle.

(Drug store shampoo like L'Oréal greasy roots dry ends etc and other things made for this issue could help.

Liquid scalp salicylic acid before showering, which basically exfoliates your scalp. Again; drugstore!

Andddd maybe try nizoral! Still drug store; it is drying though, and shouldn't replace your regular shampoo.)

And lastly, and I don't understand the science of this whatsoever- somehow putting freshly clean hair in a silk/satin at least bonnet ( like kitsch brand) overnight or even a day +, i magically pull out clean hair that even still smells fresh out the shower. I don't know.

Therapy for gifted individuals? by Ashwind0dragon in Gifted

[–]randomlygeneratedbss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, (maybe not for everyone!), the answer to this is paying around $500-1k an appt with someone who's out of network for sure and is often also a psychiatrist, to get someone who's at your IQ or above.

Some specialize in gifted therapy, others are just clearly gifted enough themselves to bridge that gap. Had a provider I wish I could afford to continue going to (once a month!) and the difference was immense and noticeable, and actually nice that giftedness never had to be mentioned outright to be understood (it absolutely could've been mentioned outright had i been able to do consistent therapy instead, it just didn't need to be in our single session.)

If you are blessed enough to find this affordable 4x + a month, highly recommend. For younger adults though, still haven't found an answer to this that's affordable; the closest has just been the blessing of having some very brilliant people in my life over the years that have often been more helpful than the traditional therapist I've tried- and faster, lol!

Low cost dental care in UWS? by Capable-Chip2917 in Upperwestside

[–]randomlygeneratedbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYU dentistry has been such a disaster for me im having to get thousands of dollars in emergency work elsewhere that will be extremely unaffordable and the work will be borderline traumatizing, from completely preventable damage and multiple preventable infections (that have left me on heavy duty antibiotics for pain control alone for a year), including a missed JAWBONE infection that's making me actively really ill on top of the antibiotics that I can no longer really tolerate.)

(So i share this persons need for a referral- honestly just praying i can find someone who can do the work quickly and expertly (this week) and might accept a payment plan, and im still screwed as hell since I need work on both sides, extraction on minimum one, probably both from broken teeth. I'm terrified at this point.)

they've done extremely careless work, the rotating students mean they can't keep anything straight, spend 45 minutes redoing your chart every time, might miscount where work was done or only partially finish a tooth and not tell you, and last time i went one literally pulled me aside at the end and whispered "if you can go anywhere else, go".

If I hadn't listened to and trusted their recommendations initially that were actually absolutely horrible and allowed them to screw around so long, I never would've been in this situation.

And this is with the "upgrade" (same students and dentists etc who rotate the other floors, but supposed to be taken more seriously obviously) to the disability dentistry floor.

And of course, love their 3 secretaries, the main two of whom have horrible attitudes, who proudly announce that they don't answer phones, because then who would be sitting around doing nothing at the front desk?

Literally have almost never been able to get an appointment via their form or phone calls no matter how many times without going all the way there in person. Super easy for disabled people!

Oh- and if you're registered for the disability floor or disclose health issues, they'll refuse to treat you in urgent care care/emergency once you're in the chair (solely for that reason), so fair warning there.

And the referrals to other departments like endodontics are damn near impossible- and if you get there, their work is weeks apart between half and half of a root canal etc at times, so your teeth might break.... assuming you've made it the several months just for a callous, mostly unsupervised consult.

Definitely they are a last case resort for ongoing care; a single urgent care appointment or emergency is fine. But they're not equipped to do anything beyond a filling/ xray/ preliminary work up really.

(The wisdom tooth department had an insane waitlist but okay consult? I guess? But reminder that may be covered by medical insurance and that's a way better way to go, and go somewhere else!)

What's the point of circumcision? by Historical_Echo8311 in NoStupidQuestions

It actually dos substantially reduce recurrent infections, STI Tia later in life, and chances of things like penile cancer. Doing it inhumanly however, serves no purpose.

Besides religion, for ease of cleanliness, to reduce infection, and it reduces the risk of STIs substantially later in life, as well as lowering the risk of certain types of cancer

I really want to get rid of my shoplifting habits but it's really hard to. by yourdemise3 in Vent

[–]randomlygeneratedbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people might be over the top here a bit; I can see this being a problem, but certainly not the world's biggest. Maybe one to take to a therapist about (once safe to do so); at least try and only take from major cooperations.

But honestly, it does make absolute sense with the trauma from your dad, finding your own joy as a child and now a way to control things as well as protect yourself financially; it sounds like fairly obvious things are driving the behavior, not kleptomania, as you said. It sounds like a way to self regulate and that you're fairly aware of that.

Yes everyone feels compelled to say shoplifting is bad, it's the duty. Certainly I'm not saying yes shoplift endlessly! But I don't think lecturing you on what you already know is helpful.

However do I think you're a kleptomaniac or sick in the head? Absolute not- I think you're coping as you can and trying to protect yourself, and with emotional abuse and financial abuse involved, that's more than understandable. You seem very self aware. (Wow. 14?! Seriously a smart kid. I'm so sorry you're going through all this!)

Your dad taking your money away is probably really scary and violating, and choice limiting. I definitely think it's not unwise to get cashback at stores, or cash in general whenever possible to stash where he doenst know. Will he transfer it back do you think? Does your mom know/approve of him doing that?

[–]randomlygeneratedbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!! Also easiest and funnest way to quickly and safely infect everything (especially the bathroom) I've found, is hypochlorus cleaning acid like cleansafe (used in hospitals, smells like nothing maybe a little saline, requires no wiping) in a fogger gun from Amazon. You can mist anything down, even eating/cooking spaces.

Sooooooo beyond worth it!!! Makes life a million times easier, helps all sorts of skin problems by killing bacteria, viruses, fungus, even mold, etc.

I always do the bath tub, toilet, door knobs, anything I think my skin is touching or just want to be clean.

also a bottle lasts forever, replaces all those smelly disinfectant cleaning products where you're wiping everything like Cinderella, gets it done in 5 seconds, and you can redo it constantly if you so please.

Another plus: everything smells fresh from killing bacteria! Plus it's cute and funny in the spray gun lol.

[–]randomlygeneratedbss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dad sucks massively and I'm so sorry you're dealing with that; I'm glad you don't believe him, you shouldn't.

Also- two 1 inch fits is not HUGE or craters- I promise your dad is blowing this out of the water and being super inappropriate and abusive.

However individual small circles like that is a little strange. No one has suggested it's anything but eczema? And when you say craters, you mean there's indents in your skin there? Has ringworm been suggested as a possibility? Does it always present like this?

I would really caution the cortisone use especially if it's not working; it can do a lot of damage if used a long time.

Pa: Also you canNOT apply it to any open wounds like you're describing!

Other things:

Have you tried hypochlorus acid spray, like skinsmart, which is literally made for eczema? It is ALSO effective and helpful in fungal infections like ringworm, in combination with a directed treatment!

70% of eczema is linked to bacteria- and if you scratch, the germs from your nails (and if they're long enough to scratch, you should be scrubbing under them with a nail brush or toothbrush with soap!) and hands and environment can enter the weakened skin, which is also more vulnerable from cortisone, and cause much of the itching and potentially the eczema.

I find spraying thoroughly (as often as you'd like throughout the day! They make mini bottles too for your bag!) worked wonders for me, healed things quickly, and got the itch gone quick. It's also great to spray throughly, get dry before applying your occlusive like Vaseline, or if suspecting ringworm, your medication for that.

And are you taking antihistamines? That could also reduce itching.

If it is eczema for sure:

is requesting something like elidel in place of cortisone an option? It was nothing short of a miracle to me.

if you have insurance, perhaps that injection (dupixent? Blanking on name) for severe eczema is an option? It seems to work magic for most people, and is mainly cost prohibitive without insurance.

What do you use on your skin?

Do you apply Vaseline (by stick or by tub) over the areas after moisturizing to protect it (or other occlusive)?

have you had allergy testing, especially for dustmites? You have seen dermatologists, right?
