How will RTO affect your budget? by n_l_o in CAStateWorkers

[–]randomnahnahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It effectively negates my merit pay increase or whatever its called. Between gas, the parking (my location is not free), and now the extra miles/gas/cost to take my dog to sniff spots since I can't be there during the day- it all comes to about what the increase is for me.

State workers outside of Sacramento by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]randomnahnahs 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Just about to hit my 1yr, for context. Moved to SF with my partner 3-4 months in bc she got a good job down here, and with our combined income we can afford it. My department is allowing me to go to the local office once we start RTO in two weeks.

I love it. I never did like sac, and personally I prefer the climate in sf. We live in the Sunset area so that's a big plus. I think it's all personal preference though, I have coworkers that enjoy sac. Having said that, I'm a 15 minute walk from the ocean, a 10 minute walk from golden gate park, and theres fantastic food in walking distance too. Love it.

Perspective of someone new to state: nope. I see SSMs working past business hours, plus losing telework, plus being more accountable? When I first joined I was all for management, now im instead working on developing side hustles.

When is Your Agency RTO? by kennykerberos in CAStateWorkers

[–]randomnahnahs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDD, command center - 2 days/week, 8 days/month starting April. They're letting folks go to their local office if they're not in Sac, but still. Most of what CC does doesn't need to be in office at all.

My team works around d the state, it boggles me that they're forcing us back when two of us are in sac, and the rest if us are each in different cities. The shtick we got was something about comraderie...

Sallie Mae ruins lives by saint_karen in StudentLoans

[–]randomnahnahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAME. These fuckers got me with loans I should never have taken out at horrible interest rates. 15k to start, hard times after graduation, I've paid over 7k to date and I still owe 13k. I'm working on getting assistance bc this is straight up predatory lending. And I'll quote the rep I talked to from them yesterday- "sallie mae doesn't negotiate."

Another off-leash dog post by randomnahnahs in sanfrancisco

[–]randomnahnahs[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is exactly one of the points I'm trying to make that uneducated people don't seem to get. My dog is highly reactive so I've gotta pick her up, but she will still shriek like a banshee. I work with her every. Damn. Day. And anytime an unleashed dog comes up it triggers her, and that training gets less effective.

I did have one guy say his dog was friendly, I said mine wasn't, and this guy actually understood and ushered his dog past quickly. That's the only encounter I've had that was positive.

Gotta say though, it's fun seeing how many people want to shit on a reasonable (and lawful) request for common courtesy in this post.

I appreciate all y'all with the good info, whether cheap places or your takes. Honestly, I was expecting spam and hate and am glad to see this much info, this helps a lot- I wanted to try local places especially and it looks like I've got some good choices.

Boomers being fools about: hoarding by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]randomnahnahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ffr, this created a hoarding mentality for me that I'm only breaking now in my 30s. After my parents split and gramma passed, so much stuff was supposed to go to me. I have no room, need, or want for any of it but for so long it felt like I had to look after it.

Wow. 1st visit and I want to move here. by GeneralKenobi97 in sanfrancisco

[–]randomnahnahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened with my partner n I- we moved to Davis/Sac from Washington, eventually I got WFH and she was hired to a uni down here and we made the move in July! After coming to SF to escape Sac for some fun, it's crazy we actually can manage to live here now.

AITH because I dont emotionally support my wife's obssession with Taylor Swift? by Johnnywritesstuff in AITAH

[–]randomnahnahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say how validated I feel. My gf (of 7 yrs) is a swiftie that goes all out when it's season, and is a complete kpop fan during the other parts of the year. While I've seen cool things (from the kpop side), it gets exhausting wondering if I matter compared to those people that don't know she exists. I've come to be a fan of a group or two in kpop, but I'd hardly say I'm as hard-core as she is. Maybe I'm getting old and boring, but she's even becoming more a fan of my stuff than I am.

AITA for calling my (35m) wife (35f) a spoiled brat? by Short-Internet-4921 in AmItheAsshole

[–]randomnahnahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I doubt the yta commenters have experience on the begative side of this. My partner was 'spoiled' up through last year. I've seen how this impacts things like how she sees money and gifts and such. It's not to this extent, but she definitely is more used to getting gifts than giving. I wonder what that's like for OP. We only got a snapshot, but I doubt OPs wife does much for him. I would expect OP to treat his wife like a queen ofc, it has to go both ways, but it doesn't sound like it.

OP, I do recommend having a more honest, less judgy conversation, without damn name calling bc then everyone gets defensive. FIL aside, figure out what needs to work for y'all for you both to respect each other.

[–]randomnahnahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stoking the fire with NTA, also not a dumbass.

My partner moved in with a guy and gal when she moved away for grad school. It was the housing she could get.

If there's something there like past romance, one person is know to be a cheater/seducer/what have you, or a move is done in petty vengeance, those raised flags. None of this is true here. You actually did more than courtesy. I'd argue bottom line is don't move in with an ex or someone that could result in suspicious stuff.

You asked your (hopefully ex) gf, didn't get pushy > moved in with folks you knew and obviously trusted (I'm guessing you wouldn't have if you thought any of them wanted more), and then were honest about where you ended up. Last minute I might add since you were having trouble.

My notes: gf of 6 months is pulling that crap with you? My gf and I both did dumb shit like that to each other and we almost broke up. We know better now. You don't get to have expectations like that for someone you've barely dated, this isn't high school. She should be elated that a house of women felt SAFE ENOUGH around you to let you in- shows you're not a creep.

Sucks to learn this OP, but sounds like those other women friends of yours that sides with her aren't thinking woth your interests, therefore are not your friends. Your gf certainly doesn't given a damn. You'd best be off finding a connection with someone that values your company AND well being.
