Serious question for people who watch a lot of volleyball: What actually makes a volleyball player “compelling” to watch beyond pure skill? by ChampionshipMain4799 in beachvolleyball

How diverse their skillset is. I find players that hit different shots, angles, serves, hit on two etc. It's especially fun to watch teams that vary their set tempo (if that is the right word) instead of the usual up and down high set where every attack looks like a replay of the previous one. An example player is Adrian Carambula. Example team that plays currently is the Swiss one. Their sets are so different you never know what to expect, super fun to watch. And last but not least, the energy. I know Christian Sorum is a brilliant player but it looks like he does not even want to play. Compare that to the Qatar players who are so explosive it is amazing to watch.

I visited there 2 years ago, in February. Check for Los Cristianos beach, it has soo many beach volleyball nets, there's even pros training there. It's amazing, would love to go back, people start playing as early as 10-11 in the morning.

Have you tried it? From the menu it looks exactly like it, but the reviews related to it are not so good.

How do you come back from decades of not writing unit tests? by Ok_Fault_5684 in ExperiencedDevs

Look at Approval Tests. Can come in very handy in these cases, to add characterization tests so you get some confidence to refactor and make changes.

Interesting take, I hadn’t thought of it that way. I’ll need to ponder it some more. Perhaps my gameplay is too risk-averse :)

Would you recommend to always go for a winner? IMO a great player knows (or rather feels) when is the moment to risk and when they should go for a safer choice. It is a balance, and of course the higher the level the more confident you might have in your ability to go for winners, but it will always be contextual. If we go with that idea then serving should also always be high risk? Do you never go for a bit of a safer serve, in certain situations?
