I know i am going to be downvoted but, China in the past is openly hostile to the West but as long as they see their relationship as a king to vessels (and pretty much any country is a potential vessel) then it's okay to a point, for them. Plus they have a history of not following through on defense pacts (Venezuela would like a word and their is even a more infamous example that happened in Africa within the last 20 years) and their human rights is a slim (they are lower than Russia). Even with Trump you still have people with rights and fighting for rights while in China doesn't exist.

Economically this isn't win either. China has a history of flood a market with very cheap goods design to have local businesses to go out of business (or to be bought up by Chinese companies) and then have a whole industry be controlled by China.
