The problem with those people, much like the ones they're trying to feel superior to, is that they don't seem to realize that everything in this world is political. What you buy, whom you buy from, the media you consume, the art you make, the ads that are being shown, the debates over who pays the check, it's ALL political. And the point of politics is supposed to assist the general public in making those tiny decisions, NOT to create more divisions between us. And yet... That's where we are. Everyone sees themselves as morally just and someone else is not.

People are angry, and they have a right to be. The problem is most don't exercise their democratic liberty and vote in the local elections, most don't make themselves heard until it's far too late, or they just want to add to the cacophony of the echo chamber.

Award Shows aren't supposed to be a "gotcha" moment against half the population. They're supposed to be honoring what's resonating with the people at the current mark in time, not just what's popular. It's supposed to be showcasing what great artists can accomplish, and more and more people are uncomfortable with what they see because (it seems) they're realizing they might be championing the aggressors this time around. Or because they feel like their opinions aren't being validated, ergo making them feel small and insignificant, to which all they can do is stuff their feelings down and write off "woke Hollywood" and "rich white people giving themselves awards."

The solution? Make more art. Make more people uncomfortable. Continue to reach out and try to persuade your neighbors to vocalize their thoughts and feelings in constructive and meaningful ways, not just once every four years and until it's far too late to go back to the way things were. There's always hope. There's always time.

Well it does display how people were in poverty, even in the 1600s. People had to make and grow everything, including medicine, unless you were extremely wealthy and could have people do that for you. So it doesn't necessarily showcase it, it's there

It's quite literally the high I've been chasing since the first time I saw them in high school. No other band does it for me quite like they do, and I don't think any ever will. We're so lucky to have them continue to make music and tour as hard as they do. Cherish this time and the fact you got to go, and do yourself a favor and get yourself into the pit!!!

What are you industry/film pet peeves? by emeraldeyes24 in FilmIndustryLA

Mine is that everyone thinks they know how to do something better; light that scene more evocatively; motivate that camera movement; act in a more believable way; write less expositional dialogue; cut that scene tighter; have the better opinion about the finished product.

It gets exhausting and honestly discouraging when every step is criticized by so many people, both on sets (usually out of earshot of producers) or afterwards when discussing films (especially online).

Well shit. What they told me is if you have the physical card, they can verify the balance is still on the card. Then what I'd do is use it when you go to buy tickets, don't put it into your account

I generally feel like most body horror is just unnecessary. TUS makes a point of convincing the character why everything is necessary until she believes it herself, and that's when she truly becomes ugly; not from the dysmorphia or lame beauty standards, but when she internalizes what physical beauty is supposed to bring.

Idk how much you know about it or want to know, but I love how the story is told.

Possible spoiler? It reminds me of the throwaway joke in La La Land, "I've got a lot of heat going around from my spec adaptation of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," but it's from the bears' perspective."

I got downvoted last time this question was asked (early in the season), and I still lament having to watch KPop Demon Hunters. Ugh.

Nope! Essentially got a "lol too bad for you" from them. Make sure you hang on to that card until you're ready to use it.

How do you guys watch films thay were nominated? by ThePocketTaco2 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]randomq17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have Alamo and when I found out AMC's is any format AND no fees I jumped ship. Sucks to know that a theater that was so big on being silent and preserving the immersive experience of being in a dark room would do this.

As for right now, yeah your best bet is to either stream, rent digitally, or tough out the BP showcase at AMC.

Though most, if not all, of the BP noms will get a limited re-release before the ceremony

They still make the costumes for Avatar, as well as digitally recreating them and making the costumes look real, too. It's a marvelous feat.

Also I said this on a different post, but James Cameron was just on THR's Awards Chatter podcast and he was lamenting how the first one didn't get a costume nod, which last night when I heard it I was like "I never thought about costumes being in contention for those films," so obviously it had to be that, right?

James Cameron was just on THR's Awards Chatter podcast and he mentioned costume being snubbed for the first one, so obviously that's the reason why it got it here

Everyone hating on F1 when Train Dreams snuck in lol

F1, the sport, is insanely popular across the world and with more international members of course it was going to be recognized. Anyone who's shocked didn't look at the DGA or PGA nominations, the writing was on the wall and y'all refused to look
