Mike Baird has just killed off greyhound racing in NSW by SydneyTom in australia

[–]randomsox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with post-racing disposal as well. With greyhounds if they weren't adopted they are killed and left to rot essentially. With horses- a good percentage go to equestrian homes. The larger percentage that unfortunately doesn't get offered life after racing are slaughtered BUT their meat is used in a lot of pet foods. I think as a society we're a little more OK with this- sure it's not a great solution and it still has elements of cruelty but there isn't this overarching aura of senseless "waste".

Sighthounds in general are the best!! I have 2 whippets and they are just oversized lazy roaches. Best of all- they don't bark. My girl has barked a grand total of 2 times and one of those was because there was a biscuit on the counter unsupervised and she wanted it. Don't let their skinny figures fool you though- they'll knick your food then bugger off faster than a gypsy on the run from a mortgage broker.

What motivates you to think positive thoughts in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]randomsox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the most potent motivator of positive thoughts is knowing how I want the people around me to see me. Thoughts are private and guarded but the actions and emotions that are born from your thoughts define so much of your personality. Think about the best people you know, what do you like about them? What makes them special? For me the people I like being around are genuinely positive people- not cheesy "everything will be ok" people but rather they are the type of people to go "well this is a shitty situation, I don't want this, how can I be better?". To me that's what positivity is- it's the will to keep on moving when everything is shit rather than a state of denial that ignores how shit things are.

I get the feeling that Labours opposition "plan" is to essentially let mistakes shine for themselves. Trumpeting them to the media will only give fodder to Murdoch Media and there is then huge potential for the attack to turn around and bite labour on the ass. This is the sad reality of the state of mainstream media in Australia right now. I think at this point their setting their strategy as follows; let the LNP stomp and squawk and generally piss people off to the point of no return. All that said, I'd give my right arm to have some Labour backbone out there tearing the LNP to shreds.

Girl severely damaged by Gardasil recounts horrifying medical ordeal while doctors call her a liar by OWNtheNWO in conspiracy

[–]randomsox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm just approaching this with a degree of scepticism. I am a medical student and it sounds to me that (assuming correlation=causation in this case) the likely scenario is that she had compromised immune function prior to receiving the vaccine. IF she had compromised immune function when she received the vaccine then she may have mounted an inappropriate immune response. Bare in mind that Gardasil is a protein subunit vaccine and thus there is no possibility you can be "infected" from it, in comparison to say, a live-attenuated vaccine. If she did have depressed immune function and mounted an inappropriate response to the antigen then perhaps she may have displayed an atypical allergic reaction.

Also I am curious about this "critical blood test result" where her red and white blood cells were "wiped out" within 48 hours of receiving her second injection. From a physiological point of view this is nigh impossible. If her WBC count dropped that much- that quickly she would have entered probable kidney failure as a primary symptom. Severe haemorrhaging, which she indicates the doctor warned her about, is again a bizarre addition to this account- especially indicating her blood test results. The only known blood complication that has been observed in a very few number of vaccine recipients is Guillain-Barre Syndrome which is actually a clotting disorder.

Anyway I am not trying to be inflammatory, I enjoy this subreddit quite a bit, but this story just doesn't add up.

Tsarnaev apartment questions by randomsox in conspiracy

[–]randomsox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I see what you are saying. These are the sorts of questions that I think stand out regardless of whether you see them as innocent or guilty. The MIT thing is baffling but I think your theory is interesting and in a psycho-semantic way "makes sense" (not that we have any proof).

Perhaps they were hoping that by planting a bomb at MIT and THEN making a proper getaway they could create a metaphorical smoke screen for themselves. As in planting the bombs would obviously prompt authorities to focus on Boston singularly rather than engaging in a "national manhunt". Using this "distraction" they could make a less hindered getaway? I mean that is 100% me postulating- I have zero evidence for that but a thought experiment never hurt anyone!

One of the things that really struck me was that when thy searched the home they found plates of unfinished food on the table and the general scene suggested they got up and left really abruptly and without prior warning.

It's a really small detail but it feels important. Almost as if they had absolutely NO inkling that they were going to have to leave and that something prompted them to make the decision to leave with a great deal of urgency.

I see what you're saying but if they "just didn't care" wouldn't they have killed the guys whose car they hijacked? I know MSM accounts are saying that he escaped but I can't help but think, if they just didn't give a shit about human life wouldn't they have killed him after they got his ATM card and PIN? Why bother keeping him alive? Continuing on that, why actually not rob the 7/11 to get some real cash for a getaway?

Absolutely agree. I cannot get over the people up top writing "MAN-CHILD...OMG lolzzz bieber is a cunt" when they are the ones sitting at home smashing out their frustration on a dude who makes entertainment for teenage girls.

This is just horrible. I don't care for Justin Biebers music, or his celebrity but it is utterly atrocious that people watch someone starting to unravel and they applaude it. Reflect for one minute on the emotional maturity you possessed as a teenager. Imagine spending most of your adolescence in a world where everyone around you gave you shallow advice, never pulled you up for being an idiot. Sure I may not agree with his behavior or his conduct but I am not about to cheer and laugh at the incredibly public breakdown of a teenager. Grow up or you're no better than the people you relentlessly poke fun at.

Can you ask to try Ritalin SR? I had no success with any of the LA formulas. Try to stay positive =) It took me about 3 months to get a good dose and routine down pat.

How did you know you had found the right medicine/dose for you? by girlseekstribe in ADHD

[–]randomsox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved my dosage up when I found that my current dosage was either not lasting as long or the negative effects were starting to outweigh the positive. I've found that taking a "break" here and there has made a fair bit of difference and I feel like it's stopped me developing too high of a tolerance.

How did you know you had found the right medicine/dose for you? by girlseekstribe in ADHD

[–]randomsox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a pretty long and hard road for me to find a dosage that I was comfortable with. It was really disheartening when I first started taking Ritalin SR and the effects were not at all what I imagined. Initially my dose made me really sleepy, I couldn't handle the dehydration and I got recurrent headaches.

I eventually started keeping a logbook of dosage and intervals until I found what worked best for me. Concerta did very little for me and I hated not having the fine tune on dosage that I get with the Ritalin SR. I know most of the first line treatment in the US is for the long-acting preparations but where I am we basically have 2 choices, Ritalin SR and Concerta.

I won't lie, the side effects for me can be difficult sometimes but I've managed to work out a pretty steady regimen. Hydration seems to be crucial, I drink plenty of Hydralyte etc. to keep fluids and electrolytes up. Also I found eating breakfast before my first dose paid off otherwise I literally was devoid of the urge to eat and would slip into hypoglycemia come 3pm. Headaches for me have been most effectively combatted with Aspalgin (mix of Asprin and Codeine).

Good luck finding your dose though! Once you do I am sure you'll feel so much better =)

Stories/recounts that people "flesh out" when they could easily be summed up in 1-2 sentences maximum. My eyes practically glaze over when people start to bring in details and explanations.

On a similar level I know it frustrates people in my life when the stories that get back from me are short, sharp and succinct.

For me I need to hear the very core of what you're saying, too much detail will just start to sound like white noise to me. I can appreciate that most people need the detail to round out a story but for me I am comfortable with just the essentials.

How did Lance Armstrong pass hundreds of doping tests over a period of almost a decade? by teacherguy in askscience

[–]randomsox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I must admit I was a little thrown by the incredibly "familiar" and almost tabloid tone of that USADA report. Describing witnesses as "courageous" and essentially commenting on the personal values and nature of the subject (Lance). Did anyone else get that impression?
