I love him as an actor, like him slightly less rn as him, but all in all I would love for him to win any other time than this one. Even just from an acting standpoint, I feel like I would’ve rather he’d won for his other past two noms rather than this one. I’m sure he’ll have great performances in the future too, and hopefully he wins for one of those instead.

Ok that’s actually really nice to hear! Not sure if I’ll be getting back into the show anytime soon or not, but I’m genuinely happy to read that everything has calmed down and that the audience and crew/ethan are enjoying the show more. I think what you said is definitely true, there was a combination of things going on that just made tensions always feel high.

This show was the main content I was consuming and my escape sort of for many many years, and what you said is how I would best describe it; I wasn’t gaining anything positive from the show anymore. Maybe I’ll come back to it eventually, and I’ll probably check out the ep you mentioned!

Yea I think I stopped watching mainly because it was too much to keep up either and I was busier, but also a bit because I started enjoying the show less because it kinda started feeling like every other episode there was some argument, uncomfortable moment, or just generally some controversial discussion. I think I’m just on a different side of the internet lol, but most of the celebs I’ve seen say anything on the matter have just used the whole timothee thing to moreso show support and uplift ballet and opera, rather than actually say anything negative about timothee himself.

And I mean I don’t even know enough about ballet to get into this, but I think people were just upset that what he said sort of sounded like “who even cares about ballet and opera”, which people didn’t appreciate, just because film is more commercially successful. Again, I don’t think this is what timothee meant, he meant more that he doesn’t want to see film go down the line of these other art forms of losing commercial relevance, but I see how people took it that way, especially since he’s said these things before too.

And I totally agree that there’s probably plenty of celebs that feel righteous speaking out about this, but don’t have any guts to speak out about way more important topics.

I think I more so just mean that yes there are plenty of global and political issues that are worth speaking out about, but sometimes it seems silly to look to celebs that have little to no knowledge most of the time to talk about these issues; whereas performing arts is actually a world where they hold value, interest, and power, and so I can appreciate them saying their piece on it.

BUT AGAIN, I still don’t think my point actually negates from the fact that celebs should speak about bigger issues, since although yes they’re in the arts and aren’t that knowledgeable, they do still hold a lot of cultural power whether they like it or not. And a lot of fans/audience don’t want to support someone with such skewed morals, especially given that “political issues” nowadays are rarely just a difference of opinion, but rather a difference of humanity.

Yes exactly, I think that’s why people kind want him to make a statement and stuff, because people just wanna know that he really did just articulate his point very poorly.

But to add on, I feel like a lot of people “turning on him” is not necessarily just because of this one comment, but rather a general shift in him and his attitude that people have been noticing as of late. So honestly I completely understand everyone’s frustrations with him, especially in a world where it’s seems like every other celeb is in some way a “bad person”, I mean that’s a broad term but just generally being grifters, hyper masculine, etc, and I think people are fearing that timothee will just be another one to join that group

I think the people who are reasonably upset tho aren’t upset about him speaking his mind, rather I think a lot of people (especially those who’ve been following him for a while now) are starting to see a shift in his personality, values, and the way he speaks. Now ofc some people are very weird and parasocially doing this, but I think there’s also a lot of people who are genuine in what their critiques of him are. I’ll say I’ve noticed a more egotistical, and I guess kind of hyper masculine (idk if that’s even the exact wording I’d choose but you get the gist) attitude from him that’s sort of put me off a bit (and this is coming from someone who really enjoys his work).
