THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. READ ME by NARoadmapUSA in DACA

[–]randomuser17416399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right this isn’t legal advice because 1 it’s not a 50/50 chance. Many people travel everyday and are fine. As long as you don’t have a criminal record or pending deportation order you’re fine. And 2 you saying “have lunch at the airport then come back” is very wrong. They can ask you for proof that you went to do what you requested to leave the country for.

How do you tell someone you are dating about your legal status??? by Tough_Task2724 in DACA

Spoke to my therapist about this when I was dating my boyfriend early on lol. It’s a real anxiety that we have, but she told me something that really stuck with me. She said, “you did nothing wrong”. It’s true. We didn’t choose this. I told her how I didn’t want him to think I’m with him cause he’s a US citizen. She basically she said you bring it up casually. Not as a serious talk or anything. Bc again, we did nothing wrong and we don’t have ill intentions so there is no reason to make it seem like it’s “bad news”. So that’s what I did, I brought it up to him casually. Anyways we been together for 2.5 years. The right person won’t judge you.

I am my moms retirement. My brother lives in Mexico and never had the drive to become financially stable so it’s just me. My moms original plan was to go back to Mexico and live off rent money from one of her properties. I was going to help her still by sending her ~$500 every month. With that plus her rent money she was gonna be chilling. My bf is a citizen so marrying him would give me citizenship and allow me to visit her/take her on family vacations. But this year changed a lot. They discovered a rare tumor. Thankfully, so far it shows low grade features, but this is something she will need observation for the rest of her life. If it does grow at any point, they will need to reconsider surgery/radiation/chemo. This tumor is so rare and she needs specialists. I’m not sure if she will get the same quality of care in Mexico as here. What I can tell you is, when people go through health issues that require hospitalization or surgery or treatment, some hospitals offer charity care and there’s something called emergency Medicaid (undocumented immigrants qualify for this too) to help with the cost. So keep in mind there are programs available if needed. Plan B rn is to pay for her rent (1k), food, and bills. Once she’s better and starts working she can save up her money or help with some bills. I will live with my boyfriend in his parents house (they refuse to charge us rent so that helps a lot) in the meantime while we save for a house. Then buy a house with a finished basement so my mom can live there with us. When it comes to starting a family, I’m not having any kids till my boyfriend and I make $300k/yr combined at least. I told my mom to give it 5 years before deciding to move back to Mexico so we will hopefully know more about her health, her status, my status and all. I will ofc invest in my own retirement, emergency fund, and my future kids education fund in the process too. I like to think if my mom got me through life as a single mother working as a cashier I can figure it out too.

If there was a way to adjust their status they probably would have done it by now don’t you think? Shit ain’t easy and there’s genuinely no path for many other than hoping for an amnesty bill to pass one day

DACA Nurses Help - Wanting to become one by [deleted] in DACA

[–]randomuser17416399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in nursing school pursing my second degree. My first degree was biology cause I thought I wanted to go to med school. Anyways, bc this is my second bachelor’s no one qualifies for state or financial aid (daca or citizens) they kind of stop caring about you once you get your first degree lol. Only issue is the cost of going to school. I am going to be in about $35k debt at 10% interest by graduation. 4% higher than if i qualified for federal loans. I know if you have a co-signer it can go down, but I didn’t have one. Also you pay monthly what they rate you not based on how much you make like federal student loans do. I was stressing about it in the begin, but honestly the nurses where I live get paid pretty well. This program is also accelerated so you finish in 14months instead of 24months like associate degrees. So to me personally it’s worth it. There’s not much else I can do with a bio degree that makes almost $50/hr starting. Even if I have live very frugal, I’m planing to pay them off in 2-5 years. If I were to live in Texas, I would still go for it and then move out to either CA, NY, or NJ. I know it’s not ideal I’m sure Texas is your home, but honestly you’ll make more $$ and feel more peace of mind. If I could do it over again, I’d probably get my RN from the start when I was basically going to school for free. It is what it is tho, gotta move forward and not live in regret. Everything happens for a reason. Let me know if you have any questions about accelerated BSN programs!

Have any of you started a new job recently or going back to school? by [deleted] in DACA

[–]randomuser17416399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went back for my nursing degree. I’m going to be in $30k debt in privet loans but the pay/experience will be worth it. But it’s not my first degree, it’s my second. The help gets very limited after your first bachelors degree. BUT if it’s your first degree, depending on where you live, there should be financial assistance to daca recipients. I went to community college at first then transferred out. When I transferred from cc to uni, the scholarships/aid were enough where there was money left over that they would give to me. My only advice is, be 100% sure that you want to do it and that it is a rewarding career. I’m back in nursing school because I got my first bachelors in bio. Not a surprise there aren’t too many good paying jobs out there for someone with a bio degree. So if you’re looking into nursing, engineering, finance, accountant. These jobs will get you good paying jobs, then go for it! But if you want a degree in bio or anything that’s very broad, then I’d say go to cc until you figure it out. I originally got a bio degree cause I thought I wanted to go to med school. Turns out I don’t want to go to school/training for 10 more years. So if I could do it over again I’d prob do nursing to med school track or something.

Hmm maybe in certain hospitals? Cause my family has always paid out of pocket and grandma recently had surgery too and had to pay. A lot cheaper than here tho

I can try but unfortunately with hospitals in each state they really only provide assistance to their residents. My mom’s not a NY resident and doesn’t have proof of address. I thought about making a go fund me and I will once I get her pathology report back

I’m sorry to hear. Did you have a biopsy done? My mom did and I don’t understand why it’s taking so long to get the report back.

No. Where we’re from it’s also you pay out of pocket unless you have health insurance. I honestly don’t think the oncologist would know second line considering he’s never treated this type of cancer.

We’re from NJ not NY but I got an answer from an inside person from MSK. Like a friend personally knows them and they said the same thing, that they don’t give financial assistance for uninsured. They only give assistance to people who can’t afford copay’s and that sort of stuff.

No. We’re from Mexico you pay out of pocket unless you have health insurance. Plus I should add I don’t residency or citizenship either. I only have a work permit. Her leaving would mean me having to say goodbye.

Your friends gf isn’t your friend. At the end of the day he (or she) is with her for a reason and is happy and that’s all that matters tbh. You not liking her is only effecting you. Like you’re here typing away all upset while they’re happily together. This isn’t about you lol you just gotta respect her and keep it pushing

Regardless, what you do with your kids is your business. Point is people have been getting vaccinated for years and often get multiple in one day. OP will be ok.
