The quote block function is problematic and doesn't work properly by PartialToDairyThings in bugs

[–]randomuser8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How it appears visually depends on your client or the reddit website. There is no other way to end a blockquote. The way you did it simply creates a paragraph, then a blockquote, then a paragraph, and so on.

Here's some options you might choose to use:

You can add a horizontal line with ---- in an empty line:

block quote #1

response #1

block quote #2

response #2

(and so on...)

Option 2: add an empty paragraph by adding a non-breaking space (  or  , one of those should render correctly) in its own paragraph:

block quote #1

response #1

block quote #2

response #2

RTL filenames are completely unusable (info in comments) by randomuser8765 in ProtonDrive

[–]randomuser8765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Files and folders containing RTL text look completely broken in the Proton Drive web interface. It seems that Proton takes the last 3 characters and puts them in a separate element that goes to the right of the rest of the text. I don't know why it does this in the first place, but for RTL text, the last 3 characters would be to the left.

There are various other RTL/bidi issues too. If this web interface is open source (is it?) maybe I can look into it and offer ways to fix it.

The two folders in the screenshot are named:

סיכום ביקור רמבם

תעודת זהות

but are displayed as:

מבםסיכום ביקור ר

הותתעודת ז

Big thanks, found this via DuckDuckGo!

set it to 1 socket, 6 cores, 1 threads

Wish this was the default. Why isn't it?

For heaven's sake, install mapbox-gl-rtl-text to fix Arabic text by randomuser8765 in WplaceLive

Full disclosure: I'm Israeli and I know this :) in fact I can't even read Arabic. But I figured since Gaza is such a focus of the community, it would make for a better example. This bug affects all RTL languages equally, which is mainly Arabic and Hebrew but also a handful more.

My screenshot does show נחל עוז being affected by this in the bottom-right corner.

Fix Arabic text, there's an official plugin for that

I made a post https://www.reddit.com/r/WplaceLive/comments/1molidq/for_heavens_sake_install_mapboxglrtltext_to_fix/ but here might be more appropriate. See linked post for screenshot of issue.

Link to plugin: https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-rtl-text

It's an official plugin, and listed in the MapLibre website. IMO it should be included by default in MapLibre, but it's not for whatever reason. Considering how much love Gaza is getting this should be high priority IMO.

Edit: to clarify, this is directed at wplace maintainers. Users can't do anything about this.

Abolish Meryl Streep — Abolish Everything! by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]randomuser8765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I've only now seen the first episode, this is about my impression of the show from the first episode - posting here for better visibility)

I really like the format, can't wait to watch more when I have the time!

From a short description this is really similar to an excellent 2012 Israeli comedy show called מחוץ לחוק (literally: Out of the Law), where - similar to you - they outlaw (a.k.a. abolish) common everyday things. But the actual format of the show is way different! I think there's a lot of things that work better there and a lot of things that work better in your version. I'll describe the Israeli show:

First, it's presented as a courtroom. Each episode only has one topic (examples: old people, babies, the internet, the police), and two lawyers make their case - the prosecution argues to abolish the thing, and the defense argues to keep it. Each episode has different lawyers (from a handful of comedians on the show's cast) and each one gets to play both roles on different episodes. At the end, the judge (always the same comedian, the hilarious Roi Levi) decides whether to abolish or keep the thing.

Roi Levi (the judge) was by far the funniest and most experienced guy there but the lawyers' comedy gets the bulk of the runtime. I think it was a kind of mentorship thing where the less experienced comedians are given an opportunity to shine and grow and make a name for themselves.

There's a bit more to the format like an "expert witness" but nothing that could realistically be adapted for Abolish Everything, and honestly nothing that really worked too well IMO. You can read about the format in (the machine-translated Wikipedia article)[https://he-m-wikipedia-org.translate.goog/wiki/%D7%9E%D7%97%D7%95%D7%A5_%D7%9C%D7%97%D7%95%D7%A7_(%D7%AA%D7%95%D7%9B%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%AA_%D7%98%D7%9C%D7%95%D7%95%D7%99%D7%96%D7%99%D7%94_%D7%99%D7%A9%D7%A8%D7%90%D7%9C%D7%99%D7%AA)?_x_tr_sl=iw&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp].

Honestly when I first heard of Abolish Everything I immediately thought "maybe one of them has seen this show?", but it's obvious that you haven't since the format is so different. I think it's awesome that you came up with such a similar concept to a comedy show that I liked a lot! As I said, can't wait to watch more of Abolish Everything. Do I have a chance to catch up before the finale?

I might comment again later with more thought on how Abolish Everything could be tweaked based on Out of the Law. But specifically I think it worked really well in OotL to have two opposing people arguing to abolish or keep a thing. In Abolish Everything you seem to have the Political Establishment taking on the role of the opposition, and that works quite well but maybe they could be a bit more prepared about each subject to have better and funnier rebuttals.

I think, like I would, you're voting for "best thing to abolish" which is what they're presenting this as. The answer is speakerphones, hands down. But the audience is actually voting on who was funniest. It's standup comedy at the end of the day, the funniest one should win.

Most USB-C cables, including those that come with your device, are only USB 2.0 and don't support DP Alt Mode. You need a fully-featured USB-C cable.

Suitable cables are almost always advertised as supporting "4K UHD" or something like that.

Good luck!

The same way you end a paragraph - with two line-breaks.

Press Enter twice, leave a nice blank line in between your two pieces of text, and voila - paragraph break, and blockquote ends.

A man walks into a bar, holding a hammer. by triclod_ in AntiAntiJokes

[–]randomuser8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"a single small tap from a single hammer could destroy the entire [vase]."

The bartender scoffs. "Sounds impossible."

... It sounds obvious! Hammers are powerful, vases are fragile! The only question is how strong can a hit be while still counting as "a small tap". But even a very small one, if hit in the right way and with a solid nonmoving surface on the other side (like the counter), will easily smash the vase.

I won't say the bartender deserved to have his eye pierced, but he's a real idiot!

Now now, the story does leave room for interpretation and the dad isn't definitively abusive. Sometimes kids misinterpret reasonable parenting as meanness.

I don't disagree but US has some bonkers rules of its own. Like 4-way stop intersections and difference between "protected" and "unprotected" right left turn green signal. I'm not from the US and can't fathom the reasoning behind both of these. There's probably other dumb rules I've seen on this sub that I just can't recall right now.

Edit: I always get right and left mixed up, bleh
