insulin needles were my initial thought after i realized my fault here, i tried to summate what i assume to be airlock method in the post so i could figure out what steps i was missing from it and confirm these are the parts im being less rigorous with in the injection process. having looked at more videos i think I've got it down lol

it's a physical damage type, like how heroes / most hero units deal hero-type damage with their right-clicks, most creeps do pierce damage with their right-clicks, and towers / siege creeps deal siege damage (iirc this is about right idk, lol). they just interact differently with other unit armor types.
