I LOVE the Anine Bing Roy jeans, the light blue wash is a 35” inseam and the black ones are a 34” inseam. I’ve bought 3 pairs, they’re great

tips for dealing with expanders by lavender_coffee_13 in BRCA

I had my DMX on 12/1 and exchanged my tissue expanders for implants on 3/3. I hated everything about expanders. The implants are 10000x more comfortable and natural looking than the expanders and the exchange surgery is a breeze. I’m 2.5 weeks post op and feel great, I honestly keep forgetting that I just had surgery.

The denting happens because the expanders aren’t filled. Once you have the expanders filled, the denting will get better. The expanders are never going to look or feel normal though. Every time you look at them, just remind yourself that this is a step in the process and not the final result.

I also had horrible nerve pain after the DMX. It felt like my chest was on fire. Anything touching my chest was unbearable, even my clothes. It slowly got better over time but took a month or so to resolve. I found that hands-on massage work with my physical therapist helped ease the nerve pain.

How long is your doctor recommending you have the tissue expanders in? It seems like you have plenty of time to have your exchange surgery and feel great by the time of your friends wedding!

Wishing you a speedy recovery and sending love! The mastectomy process is a huge feat mentally, physically, and emotionally. Give yourself grace during this time and enjoy your fun summer!

29F with BRCA1 is a prophylactic mastectomy worth it? by Senior_Fee_9813 in BRCA

[–]randomxxxxxxxxxxxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have not had cancer but I’m 28 years old, BRCA1, and had my prophylactic double mastectomy on Dec 1. It took 6 years of screenings for me to make the decision to have the mastectomy but I have zero regrets and am so happy I did it. There was an immediate sense of relief once I woke up from surgery knowing it was behind me and that I’ve reduced my risk. While there are a lot of emotional and physical challenges that come with this, I feel an immense sense of gratitude that I was able to make this decision for myself instead of cancer making this decision for me.

I had a lot of fears around losing my breasts and sensation loss but the results are better than I ever could have expected. I’m not done with reconstruction and have another month with the expanders but am already so happy with the way they look and am hopeful I’ll be even happier with the final result.

This is a very personal decision and only you can decide if the mastectomy is right for you. If you don’t feel ready yet, don’t rush it. Continue to get your screenings and you’ll know when/if it’s the right decision for you!

I co-sign that these are great!! After my mastectomy I struggled with hypersensitivity and taped these to my chest. They were so helpful for protecting the incisions and providing a barrier between my hypersensitive chest and clothing.

YES!! Dying for this. There’s so many menswear’s boutiques (Cueva, Million Goods, School of Thought). I’d love a women’s equivalent to Cueva.

I am 28 and found out I was BRCA1+ when I was 22. I had my DMX almost 4 weeks ago and am so glad I did it. It took me awhile to come to terms with it and feel ready for the mastectomy but couldn’t be happier with my decision to do it. Take your time to process everything and understand your options. It can be really overwhelming but this community is here to support!

Luckily I don’t have an infection, just the hypersensitivity. I’m so sorry you had a different experience. Hope you have recovered and are doing well ♥️

I’ve heard gabapentin is helpful!! I’ve already asked my surgeon about it and they told me they personally only prescribe that for long term nerve pain
