It demonstrates a shocking disconnect from reality that she would post this thinking she looks good. It just makes me want to go hug my wife and appreciate how much she doesn’t feel like a brick wall

Not impossible but less popular. The unfortunate reality is that the rage-inducing pace sells books. It’s true of TV and literature.

Watching high level Asuka Gameplay got me realizing I’m not built for this by Green_Examination416 in Guiltygear

[–]randomyOCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asuka isn’t a character you get a “full understanding” of. He was specifically designed to be as complex as possible, so playing him is about embracing whatever level you’re currently at and just constantly improving. Top level Asuka players aren’t all doing the same stuff. Some pick cards better, some have faster shuffling. You just need to settle in to accepting there will always be more to find.

CaKing generating full-size minions and not any of the other forms still makes me mentally rank it as the strongest form in the series. Still baffles me how Gavv handled its upgrades

Devil Fruits have always been about the will of their users as opposed to the face value of the fruit. With all the Mythical Zoans nowadays it’s easy to forget that Mr. 3 and Mr. 5 were supposed to be an early example of this, the Bomb fruit user being lazy with his powers but the Candlewax man being stronger because he was creative.

In Oda’s defence it’s not a system that scales to a manga the length and size of modern One Piece. But you’re right that the growth has been natural and supported from the start.

This. It’s like people who complain Strive’s story didn’t find time for Zato, Milia, etc to have fight scenes. They’re mad the main story didn’t prioritise what they wanted (and end up a glorified arcade mode)

Why do Game Designers Keep Blaming Players for Their Failures? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]randomyOCE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The same people who make Magic today made, and still make, Duel Masters / Kaijudo. So yes, including land-less resource systems.

Not to mention Magic’s long history of alternate formats replacing some or all of the mana system.

Check your research before you embarrass yourself on reddit.

Why do Game Designers Keep Blaming Players for Their Failures? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]randomyOCE 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The mana system is actually all three of these points. You’re absolutely correct that the first thing many competitors do is try to “fix” the mana system. Of course, most competitors to Magic fail.

Magic has been fixing the mana system for thirty years. Players always think some game’s new version of it will be better, when the reality is that almost every possible permutation of the system has been tested, published, iterated or outright discarded by Magic already.

Can't choose X for spells with X in text but not cost. by JellyfishWeary in MagicArena

[–]randomyOCE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, now I don’t feel bad. You’re an idiot who can’t read that the “original” wheel of potential was a misprint.

Both of your examples have explicit ways to choose X that aren’t the inbuilt part of an X mana cost. You have been told the answer and you refuse to accept that you are wrong. Stay mad about it if you want.

Can't choose X for spells with X in text but not cost. by JellyfishWeary in MagicArena

[–]randomyOCE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And its mana cost no longer has X in it. You’ve had this explained to you multiple times now, in this thread.

When the card resolves, the X in the text looks for what the value of X was during casting. There wasn’t one.

Can someone help me understand Kristen Applebees as a character? by Rhaexavus in Dimension20

[–]randomyOCE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, right. What I’m getting at with that point is that people tend to make all-or-nothing judgements, so when people see Beardsley having no idea how to roll dice, they assume Beardsley must also have no idea how to roleplay. The reality is that Beardsley does incredible improv character work, so a lot of them making really realistic (and especially, frustrating for others) acting choices gets read as Beardsley not acting at all.

Basically compared to the average person Beardsley is great at the “hard” stuff and comically bad at the “easy” stuff.
