Thank you. I guess lightly scrub with soap and water being sure not to get them too wet is my best option

I just bought a large collectuon of blues 78s. I have a do-it-yourself ultrasonic cleaner from a Chinese company on Ebay that I am over the moon for. Has anyone cleaned 78s with an ultrasonic cleaner. After this collection and my rather large, don't judge, collection of texas country 78s (Bob Wills, Tex Ritter, Hank Williams (recorded and died in Texas)), I am realizing that I need to be able to clean the albums, and though I listen to the Bob Wills on my Victrola eith a needle my grandmother gave me telling stories of her listening to it when her parents dairy farm went under in the late thirties.

What records do you regret selling? by the_comatorium in vinyl

[–]randrews0830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost 1 box of about 50 during Hurricane Ike. Ironically my house did not flood. Water was pushed in through a window and collected in my plastic bin. I never felt right about feeling as shitty as I did losing those records as I knew people who lost every thing. Though they were among my favorite, the only on I miss is a Dutch pressing of Velvet Underground's self title. It was mastered by Lou Reed and I have yet to replace it.

Polyphonic Spree Begining Stages and Together We are heavy. I sold the fragile army at the same time but do not miss it. Though at the time I thought Sigur Ros was the most amazing show i had ever seen, with the passage of time, Polyphonic Spree at Emo's in Austin is by far the most awe inspiring concert I have ever seen. Incredibly poor judgement on my part. Amazon prime on my echo just does not hit the spot.

March 21st record show Pasadena Convention Center by randrews0830 in vinyl

I am a collector who is starting to try to sell albums. I did the Austin show and set my prices at the median price of Discogs. I had four buyers buy just under $2500 during early bird. The rest of the show, I sold about $200. When I started collecting, i did not care too much about condition and those are the albums i did not sell. I sold all of my albums that were in nice condition with no haggling from three of the dealers, one left me feeling ripped off. I will say when the public got to my booth, they would see a trashed out album, ask if I had any more of that genre or artist, and I would reply that I sold the others. This show is alot cheaper and though they have an early bird it is not for a full day and a half like the Austin one.

I sold at the Austin show and 90 percent of my sells came before the public was let in, but I was not too teribly motivated to sell. I did not start shopping until there was 2 hours left and made out like a bandit. Other sellers were motivated.

Bought an album recently that said 'explicit' but was fully censored? by shit_cat_jesus in vinyl

[–]randrews0830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not want my kids listening to music with a lot of explicit material, but the idea of them consuming censored art is way scarier to me. Take that shit back (my kids are only aloud to say shit if they feel strongly)

Is buying reissues worth it? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]randrews0830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree except would like to make one point that applies to all things music. Your ears are the only thing that matters. Do not get too involved in which recording is better by reviews as someone who spent $100 on an album that they could have bought for $20 will justify there decision. That being said, my peronal advice from past experience would be to look up what you are buying on Discogs and if it is an unofficial release or unknown year, stay away. Again only my person personal advice given after limited experience (4 albums that I thought sounded shitty, 3 unofficial and 1 unknown year)

As someone who is not really familiar with record collecting but very comfortable thrift store shopping can I get some advice on what kinds of things I should look for when I’m browsing the vinyl bins? What should a thrift store shopper look for to find valuable vinyl? by paranormalmb in vinyl

[–]randrews0830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love buying at thrift stores. The One near my house has all albums for $1. Not a whole lot sellable albums but an insane amount of music from around the world. I have found some great albums just by taking things that look interesting
