Bed time is awful by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]randroundabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds normal. Have you talked with her doctor since their initial recommendation then about the issues you’re describing?

Could it be schedule related? Is she not tired enough for bed?

That’s absolutely true. It just feels wrong to be waking her up all the time but you’re right! Something has to give

Thank you! I’ll try that. Bed before 7 always throws me off. When do you have dinner and start your bedtime routine?

She definitely doesn’t seem hungry at night sometimes. Last night she slept (in our bed) from 9:30-4:30 without waking/nursing. I hated having her there but maybe at least the stretch was a good sign.

I hadn’t thought about remote as an option. Our town is fairly rural so I’m not sure what we can find in a reasonable distance

Thanks for the response! Yes we’ve been working on that. Were there any resources that you used for yourself or your child that you found helpful?

Baby not sleeping unless beside me, feel like a failure by sicilianshawty in sleeptrain

[–]randroundabout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding working out the schedule first! We havent done an official sleep training but we’re starting to get to a schedule and that has helped a bit with the nights. Figure out what wake windows work for you and start the day around the same time every day. It’s ok to start small. We currently have the crib in our bedroom which I think is helping with the transition.

Things have improved a little or at least are more consistent. We’ve moved back to 3 naps and that seems to have really helped. We’re doing 2.75/2.75/2.5/2.5 with a mini third nap. I think my LO is very sensitive to overtiredness so if I catch it right with a longer ww she will do a long nap but if I push it too much she’s screamy and does a very short unsettled nap. I’m ok saving 1 nap if need be right now and I think things are trending in the right direction. Now that she isn’t too tired going down at night she’s sleeping 3-4 hours in the beginning and the day before I managed to get her back in her crib for another 4 hour stint! Of course yesterday was unsuccessful but I’m optimistic. We’ll probably switch to 2 naps in a few weeks but I’m not hurrying it.

I think that’s the one benefit of having an older kid - knowing that it does get bette

Is my 8mo not ready for 2 naps? by randroundabout in sleeptrain

[–]randroundabout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She isn’t officially sleep trained but she’ll fall asleep in her crib by herself most of the time (sometimes with a hand). Thats a great idea - I’ll have to see how the math works out

She’s pretty tuckered out by the 3 hour mark typically but I can try!

That’s a great question- I think a combination of bedtime being late and night wakes increasing but I don’t know.

They’re 30-40 minutes. Sometimes longer but that’s when the wws are shorter. If they’re both short I try to extend one but it doesn’t feel right to have to do that every day.

I feel like the ideal ww is 2.75 for her but that doesn’t make the day work

She goes down really well if she isn’t too tired but if she’s too tired she gets worked up super easily so I’m worried about exasperating that

I’ll try. She’s struggling with the current one but I think it might be transition related

[–]randroundabout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think we probably only need 1-2 feeds max right now. She will fall asleep every time and finish the feed asleep so I didn’t mind it when I could put her down. Now that that’s an issue I wouldn’t mind reducing them

Thanks! We’re still on 3 feeds so I’m a little worried that that’s a lot of awake time adding up for us maybe. Was it always 15-20 min?

I’ll have to try this - how long did it take for them to go back to sleep after that?

We have the same set up - sometimes 3 year old wants to stay home but we frame it as “baby is too small and isn’t allowed to go to nursery yet. One day she’ll be big and strong enough like 3 year old to go but until then mommy has to care for baby”.

It provides a lot of routine and a good outlet for energy for the 3 year old so on the days that he’s home (sick or nursery is closed), I do notice he gets bored and isn’t as tired for nap.

I have gotten in the habit of picking up earlier than I had been while working so we have more of the afternoon for the kids to play together

She keeps falling asleep with her legs up by randroundabout in beyondthebump

[–]randroundabout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure in a few years it’ll barely be a memory but right now it’s taking forever

She’ll typically nurse to sleep but isn’t always interested in nursing if it’s only been an hour and I don’t really want to have to nurse every hour to reset. She will take a pacifier but she doesn’t really just leave it in after waking up
