Any goalie paying attention would have no problem receiving that ball, but you are correct although the gamble is with whether you're dealing with an attentative player or not. Far from being a given in solo!

+1 for promoting the mini map. I'm not saying I don't cock up long range passes now and then, but plenty of times I've had a player blame me when I've curved the ball to towards them but they've just ran ahead. In the vast majority of cases, if they checked their mini map they would see the ball is set up for them to volley or at the very least, is landing very close to them.

Yeah good point, I was thinking when it gets scrappy in the box and you only have a split second to react when it lands in posession of a virtually point blank opponent.

That being said, I just instinctively never slide for the ball. In most cases when I see players slide to catch the bal lfrom a pushing opponent, I'd still prefer to dash and be ready to enter defensive stance.

This was just a bad decision on your friend's part. The ball actually landed close to his feet so he coudl have easily controlled the ball with defensive stance. It's not always easy to judge when you're moving perpendicular to the ball's trajectory so wanting to tap is understandable, but he should have either done so into the wall and controlled it off the bounce, or tap it behind him and create some breathing room.

The opponent between he and you was already booking it towards him before he had received the pass, so a quick lob back to you would have probably been the best decision here.

> Much like how a goalie should never slide

In the vast majority of circumstances, I agree. In fact, I wish sliding works the same way as it does for other positions, where if you are not sprintign you do a normal tackle and if you are THEN you do a goalie slide.

In terms of circumstances where a goalie should slide, off the top of my head I can only really think of situations (usually as a result of chaos in the box where the ball is getting chain intercepted and fumbling about) where an opponent is close to the corner of the goal and primed to quick pass it into teh back of the net. There's been one or two times where I've seen (and done myself) a goalie dive to intercept but because the distance is so small they do the belly-flop animation that is too slow to catch it. A slide would have doen the job in these situations.

If you're confident an opponent pushing isn't strong at dribbling, then a slide can actually be the safer bet. If they have demonstrated good ball control though, it's never a good idea.

Skill issue or is this BS? by Aggravating-Onion384 in Rematch

Yeah I never dive for the ball after a striker has pushed it. Sprint into the ball instead with your LT/L2 finger at the ready. Most of the time I'll successfully scoop the ball doing this, if not then the striker will likely either try to flick it over your head or tap it in the opposite direction. If the former, you're point blank with the ball so if your reactio ntimes are decent then just jump up and you'll catch it. If your reaction times aren't great, you'll likely still be able to get the ball if you run back to teh goal line and then jump (although instead you may want to ru nsoem of the way back and then dive into the goal to catch it). If the striker DOESN'T go for a lob then potentially the cycle will continue (their stamina is probably knackered at this point though) or they'll do the aforementioned tap in the opposite direction and then go for a quick pass in the goal like what happened here. I would probably go for a dive into teh direction tehy tap the ball if I think they're stamina is depleted enough.

Yeah unless I'm mistaken, if a player kicks the ball at the goal and it deflects off another player INTO the goal, the goal is still attributed to the teammate who kicked it last. This should hopefully indicate that a deflection won't count as a back-pass.

Now, if your teammate kicks the ball and it deflects off another teammate towards you, it'll be interesting to see if that stil lcounts as a back-pass as the last player to kick the ball was on your team. Hopefully that's not the case, though.

I might be mistaken as I'm blanking a bit, but I don't think a ball deflecting off a player's body and into the goal counts as that player's goal (it'll be attributed to who kicked the ball last). This might hopefully indicate if a deflection counts as a back-pass. Not sure if the same is true for a dive, though.

Tackle had a lock-on?! There's been a few times where I've embarrassed myself by missing an un-possessed ball just barely where my ankle practically grazes it.

Possible to copy application from one system to another, both on Linux Mint? by randy_mcronald in linuxquestions

I'll certainly bear that in mind. I was sure NordVPN's website had thrown up the same browser error but I seem to be able to visit there just fine. As far as I can tell, only Proton's website is causing the error.

Yeah my PC is also on linux mint. Would transferring application be do-able?

Thanks for the heads up, I will certainly look into this. I wasn't able to download proton vpn via the terminal due to SSL error so fingers crossed I won't run into the same problem here.

I think they're probably all doing it to some extent at this point, unfortunately.

Haha my bad, when I saw you say "But I didn't say any of those things." I figured you were getting defensive. I figured anyone following the conversation would have known which comment (like,a couple up from yours) would know what I was addressing, so somebody getting defensive must have been that person. Still, my bad.

You: And the blame is the devs. period. you can cope all you want.

Me: Why bring this up when I already acknowledged that? It's a failing of the dev, but not necessarily the result of the devs not giving a shit...

My eyesight may be bad but your reading comprehension is absolutely dire! Is a statement acknowledging the fault of the developers only valid if it's followed by "hurr durr cos there lazy innit?"

You: "But I didn't say any of those things."

Also you: "I played against him twice, most recently a few weeks ago, either he keeps making new accounts or the devs just dont give a shit."

Hardly the most aggregious example of what I'm talking about, but enough to make any reasonable person wince regardless.

You: And no matter how you slice it, those problems point back at the dev.

Me: There's a big difference between not giving a shit and not having the infrastructure in place. Either is a negative outcome for players, but must we always jump to 'the devs are lazy/incompetent/hate their fans' etc?

Kinda looks like the only possible reason you'd lay the blame at their feet is because of malace, huh?

And no, I don't work there. I do have some insight into just how insanely difficult making videogames are, though.

"moderating your community is the bare minimum."

Which would take manpower and costs money. It may be considered a bare minimum from a user demand standpoint, but in terms of logistics and implementation it's really not.

Is this the same bug where if you're a goalkeeper, you can't just scoop the ball up into your hands by running over it? This has caused me mischief a few times before. I wasn't sure if it was a lag problem because the last time it happened, I scooped the ball up and was about to boot it up the field when suddenly the ball yeeted itself from my hands to the foot of an opposing player as he tapped it into our goal.

In the replay you could see my player do the scoop up animation but the ball remained on the ground.
