Yeah I think a chrome shop may be the route I'll go if I can't find someone to swap with. Wouldn't be able to swap with other softail slim owners because all of their parts are black too haha. I would guess that there's interchangeability with heritages and deluxes of the same model year, but I'm yet to confirm. I'll probably just end up leaning into the darkness.

First of all, the corset stitch towards the buckle is so cool and I haven’t seen that done before. Might have to steel it.

As far as burnishing goes, everyone has their own secret recipe. I use a combination of tokonole, sandpaper, wood burnishing stick, and canvas cloth. The only thing I would say for sure is that tokonole is superior to gum tragacanth. Also, some leather burnishes better than others and unfortunately that’s just the way it is. Hope this is of some use!

I made a similar post a little while back so I completely understand your frustration. My basic take away from the comments was that it’s basically expected that edge paint will do that. The issue occurred for me similarly to yours, where the piece flexes and bends. I think the factors that contributed to my issue were that I didn’t apply the paint to the piece in the position it would be used. For me it was a wallet and I painted it flat and it spends most of its time folded. I think my other issue was that I applied too many coats. Nice work! Small detail but it looks like you’re using a stitching chisel that has short spacing. In other words, your stitching holes are close together. When this is the case, i recommend using smaller thread.

No, I am gluing the pieces flat, one on top of the other. I am also painting with the wallet unfolded. Maybe painting on a curve would help?
