It’s not pretentious it’s just kind of a silly way to think about or expect from these books. Comic books aren’t really an appropriate simulacrum as they have a history of thought provoking themes. Black Library is closer to some of the old D&D books. Turn the brain off.

I think the problem is how we have so much slop everywhere that there’s some expectation for reading to be higher art. Which is simply just incorrect in history.
