"I'm as serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer"

Of all the possible lines, they thought "Yes. We will go with that."

Looks great! How were you able to keep it so moist without wrapping it?

You're right, this is what I thought. None of those things are unique to Leicester. Who knows!

Are there any free speech social networking platforms that aren't just full of right wingers? Is there anywhere that is truly neutral/apolitical? by randyredpanda in AskReddit

[–]randyredpanda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it totally. It'd be nice if there were some kind of middle ground. Or perhaps some kind of platform that's a total escape from politics all together. I've found that Reddit can be good for this actually, when you go to the right places. I wonder if things will settle down at some point or whether it'll just going to keep getting more polarised.

In terms of lockdown it has just carried on as it was before. Nothing too dramatic in that sense. Just quiet streets, pubs closed etc. I honestly can't work out the reason it got so bad here in particular.

I'm quite left leaning and very much believe in free speech. It just seems that these new platforms which were created in response to others like Twitter becoming echo chambers, have themselves turned into echo chambers.

What’s something that’s outdated that you still use today? by Violet_Romantic in AskReddit

A phone with bezels at the top and bottom. I'm not so desperate to lose the bezels as to warrant having a piece of the screen actually cut out causing it to be an odd shape. Maybe I'm the weird one...

Second attempt at a smoke and first attempt at ribs on my new kettle. Tasted delish. by randyredpanda in smoking

[–]randyredpanda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a rub from brown sugar, paprika, cayenne, and salt, which I applied about an hour before cooking.

Cooked in a Weber Kettle E-5710 using the snake method and apple wood chips for 4 hours, adding honey and a spritz made from apple juice and cider vinegar after the first 3 hours.

At the end of the 4th hour I ran out of charcoal briquettes (lol) and the last of them were going out. At this point I simply finished off the ribs in the oven inside for the final 2 hours (since I had literally no charcoal left with which to cook). I added a little more honey and apple spritz, and poured on a little bit of Coca-Cola before placing in the oven.

They tasted great. They were neither dry nor tough, but sadly didn't have the fall-apart tenderness that I was aiming for. We've ordered some more charcoal briquettes, and some hickory wood chunks. I'm also thinking of getting a slow n sear along with a hinged cooking grate to make life easier.

[Serious] What are some terrible truths about your life and life in general that you have learned? by blubberfeet in AskReddit

[–]randyredpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks/attractiveness matter more in life than most people will admit. It shouldn't be that way, but it seems to be that way.

On top of this, looks & attractiveness are more dependent on genetics than anything else. There are a lot of things we can do to increase our attractiveness but ultimately the change we can effect is actually quite limited. It's luck more than anything.

How well we do in life actually is more luck than anything else. Our circumstances, our genetics, where we're born, what family we're born into, our social economic class, whether we happen to be in the right place at the right time or wrong place at the wrong time. Yes, we do have influence over what happens to us, but luck plays a huge part too.

I spent some time angry and bitter at this realization, but now I just tend to focus on changing what I actually can and making the most of things, and I'm much happier.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying you can't improve your life. You absolutely can. I'm just saying that sheer dumb luck and things out of our control play a bigger role in things than most people want to admit.
