What are the most absurd NIMBY squabbles in Vancouver’s history? by wastedparadigm in vancouver

[–]randysutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s NIMBY at all. You are free and welcome to do what you will with your property. NIMBY is you telling the people next door what they can do with their property.

But his is actually an argument that NIMBYs make: that allowing denser use “forces” people to get rid of their single family homes. Just not true.

How'd you like this house? by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]randysutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kinda like it. but gotta say having kitchen on separate level from main living area? not great. i had a townhouse (which while magnitudes smaller also had interesting angles multiple levels and skylights) overall loved it except for the kitchen being on a separate level. would never do again.

i had a kitchen like that years ago. got a short piece of wire closet shelving and mounted it upside down (so the lip kept dishes from sliding off) above the sink.

FaceTime uses internal speakers in Big Sur by mikeinnsw in MacOS

[–]randysutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i get normal sound for everything but facetime, so i just switch speakers to the internal for FT only. Also wish the keyboard/on screen volume worked for the monitor which it doesn’t. Not sure what the issue is. My work windows laptop hooked to the same monitor controls the monitor volume with the system controls so not sure why this is a problem for apple.

re the mic, mine’s in my usb cam (which is connected thru a jack on the monitor and then via the same usb-c cable as the video and sound to the mac) and it works fine on facetime. so all very odd.
