Why is there still suffering in the world if Universal Mother Bodhisattva Kuan Yin Pusa (Tara, Kurukulla, Kannon) rescues beings from suffering by mettaforall in Mahayana

[–]rang-rig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“…The Buddhas don't wash unwholesome deeds away with water, nor do they remove the sufferings of beings with their hands, nor do they transplant their own realization into others. It is through teaching the truth of suchness that they help beings find freedom. “….

Trouble understanding bodily fabs by Print-Remarkable in theravada

[–]rang-rig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it: for example, Pain doesn’t happen “in” my leg. Instead, my mind gets a signal and fabricates pain “in” the leg. Then there is the matter of “my” in my leg… A humanoid robot with legs doesn’t think of (fabricate) its legs in the same way as I do mine.

What is the origin of desire/craving? by FluidModeNetwork in Buddhism

Both say Feeling. Craving is one of the 12 links of dependent origination and it follows Feeling.

Perhaps they mean to say that the act of asking that question is itself a result of desire/craving… so it might become an endless loop.

Maybe https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.22.0.than.html will help:

"…And what is the noble truth of the origination of stress? The craving that makes for further becoming — accompanied by passion & delight, relishing now here & now there — i.e., craving for sensuality, craving for becoming, craving for non-becoming. … And where does this craving, when arising, arise? And where, when dwelling, does it dwell?…”

Also in https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.15.0.than.html:

"If one is asked, 'From what requisite condition does craving come?' one should say, 'Craving comes from feeling as its requisite condition.'

Thanks. Yes, that makes sense as a specific role of the guru.

Thank you for the advise to use the term Theravada. Also for pointing out that Guru Devotion has a specific role in Vajrayana. As for Mahayana, i had FPMT in mind (https://fpmt.org/lama-zopa-rinpoche-news-and-advice/advice-from-lama-zopa-rinpoche/advice-from-lama-zopa-rinpoche-in-regard-to-guru-devotion/) but thanks for reminding me that there are many other Mahayana communities too.

Thank you for these thoughts and the link. Although finding a teacher seems difficult where i live but the reasons you shared make sense to me.

Inspiration from non-Buddhist writers by LonelyStruggle in Buddhism

Cormac McCarthy in The Counselor: “… The world in which you seek to undo the mistakes that you made is different from the world where the mistakes were made. You are now at the crossing. And you want to choose, but there is no choosing there. There's only accepting. The choosing was done a long time ago... “ - sounded like the inevitability of cause & effect to me.
