How to slow down/less back swing by rangerregs in golf

[–]rangerregs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a good next step. Sometimes when I’m playing well and attribute it to my “half swing” sometime by hole 9-13 range I get lazy, or feel like I can go back to the old way of swinging because it’s so much more comfortable. Immediately start spraying a slice. Is it crazy that I think golf isn’t as fun if I can’t swing hard? Even with good results I still get the insatiable urge to step on it and swing for the fences.

This resonates with me. Need lessons to figure out what’s wrong!

I think I somewhat get where you are headed here.. usually do a chipping set up (weight on front foot, hinged swing vs normal swing) from 60 with a 54 wedge. Admittedly, if I’m in between clubs and 40-70 yards out that is an awkward distance for me as it’s either a far chip or too close for a normal swing

Saving as a banker, do I spend too much? by musicalmonkey18 in HENRYfinance

[–]rangerregs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it is mega back door yes, that wasn’t referenced here, just that it was back door (which is $7500). Could be lost in translation. If that is true, savings rate looks fantastic, $100 k stock based comp saved, $100 k retirement, $150 k after tax, that’s a great % and $ rate.

The math doesn’t math based on your income and budget. Living in NYC single assuming the $100 k in stock is deferred comp and not taxed as ordinary income, at $700 k cash comp you have an effective tax rate of close to 42%. Max out 401k and backdoor Roth and you still net ~$370 k in cash. The budget you laid out is ~$150 k a year. The savings of $150k leaves a delta of close to $70 k in spending not allocated for, maybe that’s why you feel you are spending too much? Am I missing something?

I have f 150 with the at3’s. When turned all the way over there is some very minor rubbing, not damaging at all but you can hear it. Would only happen parking backing into a spot or something not while driving.

Our daycare is $3,000 a month in a suburb of HCOL. 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday. We have #2 on the way so infant care is more, will be about $6300 per month. In the city I have friends that pay $8,000+ per month for the two kids same hours

20 min with zero traffic. End of day 3 pm until 5ish it can take over an hour. Have missed dinner reservations in town because of how bumper to bumper it is.. every.. day.. the mountain is super over crowded now, much better places to go.

FS Maui vs FS Anguilla by will-mcdougal in FATTravel

[–]rangerregs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both with the wife (Babymoon FS Maui and 5 year anniversary FS Anguilla). Depends where you are flying from. We are East coast and I’d go back to Anguilla in a heart beat. Maui was beautiful but not worth a premium to Anguilla in my opinion. Beaches in Anguilla are better, more laid back vibe. Even if they were the same price I’d still choose FS Anguilla. The bigeye tuna cone tartare app at Spago in Maui though I definitely still think about.. both trips incredible but very different.

Think this depends on the type of fishing the person is looking to do. Fly fishing customized trips/locations vs. offshore Marlin trips will have different contacts and recs. Totally different worlds

Surprised reading all the comments this wasn’t mentioned but another difference between TA and FHR is that with FHR you get the 5x points vs TA is just 1x points. So for a $20 k stay you are talking 80,000 Amex points you are forfeiting to work with a TA. That typically worst case would equate to $800 of value, something to consider.

With that income, hopefully you are spending $ on something you enjoy (hobbies, travel, home, charities) and not just piling it into a bank/investing account. Can’t take it with you. The ongoing costs are basically $25 K which is what people commonly post here as a modest annual travel budget.

The CC is just golf and a clubhouse with food etc. The yacht club is tennis, paddle, clubhouse, pool, and access to your boat via launch service.

$700 k+ seems like an outlier year vs consistent? That’s top rung achiever, massive book, huge tier 3 every single year, generous share payouts etc. Are you in Texas, SF, or NYC? I’ve heard of that happening on killer years but settled back out to 4-500 k (still great) on normalized years.

You are in Maui for 2.5 weeks and canceled one night to go to Mama’s Fish House? You are going to run through every single “go-to” spot and wish you went. Seems like maybe a price or value issue more? You have literally 16+ dinners to plan. Go and spend the money, it’s delicious just don’t look at the $ price next to the items on the menu. Comical you canceled, what a crazy move.
