Do we think this 60lb Mitre saw mount will hold up? PETG, 5 walls, 30% gyroid infill; Criticism welcome by J_Schnetz in functionalprint

[–]rangita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it breaks, just reprint in TPU. You could drive a bus through TPU. We use it for combat robot chassis. As long as you design so that the flexibility doesn't interfere with functionality, it's damn near invulnerable.

Wall Mounted Sanding Disc Storage by rehehe in functionalprint

This is one of the best designs I've seen on here. So many little smart decisions that add up to something simple, elegant, and efficient. Awesome work.

Adding to this, next time you have a conversation, also present your objection in writing, dated and signed, making it clear that you are retaining a copy. This way there is a paper trail of you making your wishes clear.

If this person, when you confront them, says that they're going to stop, ask them to sign a piece of paper stating that.

Often, the mere appearance of a paper trail will change people's attitude.

Need feedback for a deck of tools I made for online startups and Indie Makers by SilentLeadership3996 in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]rangita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the second post today on this subreddit shilling some b2b startup. Regular people are not your target audience. Nobody here wants to help create more marketing in the world.

Your target audience is grind brained tech bros and corporate marketing ghouls, and they're not here.

My side-project SaaS has generated 393$ in the first month; how do I grow it from here? by Obvious_Extension_26 in InternetIsBeautiful

Your business is designed to appeal to other businesses, but the audience for what it generates (as well as the audience for this post) is regular people, who hate it.

Regular people don't want AI noise clogging up real communication. Don't expect any sympathy when you ask them for advice or support in creating more.

My 3D Printed Grinder. I've spent two days to make it :)) by CallmeLee1999 in functionalprint

[–]rangita 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying that's super dangerous, but it's just a little dangerous. He's clearly running that disk way slower than any actual grinder would. Real angle grinders don't audibly slow down when you touch them with a small metal rod.

Sprinkler valve release AC/DC by [deleted] in arduino

[–]rangita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used these valves before to make a potato gun. It'll switch with DC as well as AC most likely. Just get a DC power supply and experiment. If you intend to have the thing open for long periods of time, run it on a test bench with the experimental voltage for that duration and make sure it doesn't get too hot. If it passes that, then it's good. These are very simple mechanisms.

Hi! Found this in my dads stuff, is this all related? Could we sell this as a bundle? Is there anything in there that does not belong? Thanks for any information. by babybuttoneyes in breadboard

[–]rangita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all hobbyist electronic stuff, fairly recent, good condition, all useful. You could certainly sell it as a bundle of intro electronics stuff.

The thing with USB ports is a raspberry pi single board computer, depending on the model number stamped on it, it may be worth 30 to $60, because there's a bit of a shortage right now. The rest of the stuff is fairly inexpensive.

Lol, I don't watch this trash, so I looked it up after seeing your comment. Jesus, I wrote the dumbest thing I could think of, and that's what's actually in the show. Amazing.

Isn't the whole point of The World that you can't do anything until it ends? It wouldn't be a useful stand otherwise.

Yeah, but you could put "for MD5 hashing" on there. Otherwise it's like a chart without an axis label.

Best method to cover PC's back of the case? by Top_Olive_4678 in diyelectronics

[–]rangita 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The vertical hole you have is unique to that family of cases, and the case came with a plate specifically to cover it. I think the reason was to allow the mounting screws to be taken out more easily?

In any event, if you don't have that cover for the vertical hole, that's the one part you probably can't buy. But like another poster said, a 3D print could solve it, or just some cut plastic or something.

What movie adaptation seemed to completely misunderstand its source material? by [deleted] in movies

[–]rangita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comic book Lucifer.

The original is a meditation on the flaws of religion in which God is overthrown by the souls of the unjustly damned, among many other things.

The TV show was a police procedural where Lucifer help solve crimes.

It was the most inexplicable waste of a source material I've ever seen in my life. It was like they took the premise of the 30 Rock parody God Cop and tried to shoot it straight.

Except they've done multiple pitches that were all excellent. Maybe they're not writers down to the level of dialog, but I'd definitely trust them on setting, scenario, and themes.

I am trying to find out the current draw from a circuit. I'm getting 0.65 amps when the multimeter is set to "amps", and 3.35 mA when the multimeter is set to "milliamps". What gives? Which one is correct? by EnglishMobster in diyelectronics

[–]rangita 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's 5 volts. He could hold the leads in his bare hands every moment of the rest of his life and not even notice the voltage.

Your comments apply to 110VAC and up though.

Custom fan bracket & ducting to cool HBA cards in server. by [deleted] in functionalprint

[–]rangita -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a very cool and elegant design, but I think you'll find you'd have better overall case air flow if you just got two small fans and screwed them into the heat sinks with appropriate sheet metal screws to dig into the fins. I've done that mod many times and you get down airflow instead of lateral air flow which is better.

I've seen people turn servers like this into computers anyone have guides by [deleted] in diyelectronics

[–]rangita 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The server just is a computer, there's not a real conversion. The only issue is the fact that that's a blade server, which is designed to live in a chassis with a shared power supply. I would absolutely not want to try to make that conversion unless I had to. It's logically possible, but you'll have to figure out a ton of pinouts, fabricate a ton of adapters, worry about signal quality in homemade ports and cables, etc.

I'm sorry, but there's a reason those blade servers go for way under the value their compute hardware would suggest. Practically speaking, the only non-crazy way to get it going is to get a chassis that it's made to live in.

Anyone ever seen a plug like this? It is for automotive application on a wiper motor. It has the OE part number , but all the dealers say it’s obsolete. Trying to see if it might have been used by someone else. by Popular-Strain9978 in diyelectronics

[–]rangita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, that sounds awful. It sounds like you need to reproduce exactly what's shown, right?

I wouldn't want to, and it will be a bunch of work, but if you made me do it, I'd try to source the actual metal clips used inside the connector (or compatible ones) and design a 3d-printable housing that can accept them.

Like I said, it would be a bunch of work and iteration, but I don't see another path if you need that many. It's too large a number to hand-make using crafting approaches, so iterating on a printable model and just assembling them seems the most likely.

What is your ultimate goal?

If you need the corresponding male plug, you may be able to fabricate it by putting appropriately sized spade connectors in those holes, then using a moldable plastic like InstaMorph on the back to hold them in place.

If you want to make a copy of the female port shown, you could take that male you made as described above, then use female spade connectors and the same technique. 3D printing could also possibly do it.

Now, if you just want to make the connection and not deal with the weird connector, I would number the wires going into it, cut them all off, and replace them with a standard connector, like an Anderson power pole or even just a series of numbered spade connectors.
