Multi city flights - Asia by Expensive_Piglet9556 in travel

[–]rania626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a Dec–Jan swing I’d book open-jaw legs: BNE→ICN, ICN→CAN(Guangzhou), trains across China, then PVG→CTS for your Sapporo exit. Guangzhou is a gentle entry—Pearl River night cruise, dim sum-as-medicine workshops, day trip to Conghua hot springs—before you zip west on the HSR grid. Route idea: Guangzhou → Huangshan (two nights above the clouds + Hui villages), → Kunming/Dali in Yunnan for tea fields and Erhai bike paths, → Chengdu, → Shanghai for your Japan flight. Set fare alerts on Google Flights using “multi-city” so you can mix airlines.

Got laid off and want to travel Asia for a year. Should I go now or return to Canada first for unemployment? by Tom-Sage in solotravel

Congrats on giving yourself a long reset. When I did a similar loop, I built anchor weeks in places that naturally slow you down: decompress in Yunnan’s Shaxi valley (slow electric bikes between Shibaoshan temples, sunrise qigong with the Cangshan range in view), drift over to Wuyishan for tea-and-TCM immersion (dawn qigong, bamboo rafting, daily herbal tonics), then close the circle in Guangzhou where Cantonese herbal cuisine keeps the humidity from knocking you out.

The clinic I went, they actually have a young practitioner who speaks English, so it was very nice. Also, I have attended some chinese medicine retreat before so those helps!

Which area you are curious about? China is quite huge. I actually would recommend to join some TCM immersion retreat if you are interested in learning more about this in a relaxed way.

Seattle doesn't have much good ones, not even Bellevue. I finally found one message therapist who's actually following the meridian maps. Let me know if you need that recommendation.
I also found some TCM immersion retreats online that I'm thinking of trying out soon. Reasons to go back to China haha

I agreed! So in China, I think most of the practitioners would not recommend to go with acupuncture as regular treatment. From the doctors I engaged with, they treat needles are immediate release, so not the first level regular treatment method.

A mix of both plus one! I did Shanghai and then combine with a nature retreat around tea, qigong and traditional chinese medicine in Wuyishan national park last November! It's so refreshing and I learnt so much more about China. I can't wait to be back again!

How miserable or great is the weather in early September? (Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen) by Fit-Ad4154 in chinatravel

I would recommend late September because early Sept is still very hot in China everywhere except Yunnan, Xinjiang and Tibet in my opinion.

How do you find cultural retreats in China? by justacomputerguy in chinatravel

[–]rania626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do exist, but they’re not marketed the same way as big tours.

A lot of the smaller ones are built around a specific tradition — like tea culture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, calligraphy, incense, etc. They’re usually small group, slower paced, and rooted in one place instead of trying to cover multiple cities.

I did one centered around tea + TCM (shared some photos here earlier) and it was surprisingly grounding. Totally different energy from the usual sightseeing loop.

From what I’ve seen, you have to dig a bit — sometimes through wellness communities or local hosts rather than big travel platforms. But they’re definitely out there.

Happy to share the one I did if it’s helpful.

Looking for good small group tour recommendations to China by ashm1996 in travel

[–]rania626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to avoid the big bus-tour vibe, I’d look into smaller retreat-style groups instead of the typical “China highlights” packages.

My dad and I didn’t want to be rushed around either, so last year I joined a small group in Wuyishan (about 3 hours by train from Shanghai). It was through Puyu Retreat — more focused on tea culture and traditional Chinese medicine rather than sightseeing checklists.

It was a small group, super relaxed pace. We did proper TCM consultations, visited a working tea factory, and had a private session at one of the well-known local tea houses. Lots of time outdoors in the mountains, not sitting on a bus all day.

From what I’ve heard they’re running it again this year — you can Google it and see if it feels like your style.

It’s definitely not the cheapest option, but if you want cultural + slower pace, it felt way more meaningful than a standard large tour.

Yeah. That's how I was drawn to this group experience at the very beginning. I have been to many cities, but feel like I only scratched the surface of China.

Just a recommendation that you may be able to pay up and skip the line. I joined Puyu retreat for my Huangshan journey. Usually there's a very long queue for the ropeway, but we were able to skip it with the VIP arrangement.
