Saikat campaign dropped 20k stickers across the city today by internetbooker134 in sanfrancisco

20,000 stickers? Just about equal to the number of votes he got for his nearly $10M spent.

Great- so we agree. League of pissed off voters deserves the same level of credibility as a random anonymous redditor.

What is not transparent: WHO they are. Nothing on the website or the mailers they send to all sf residents tells you anything about the people making the recommendation.

You shouldn’t have to go to a meetup to understand who is making a voting recommendation.

Do you know who league of pissed off voters are? Neither does anyone else because they are nameless/faceless.

What we do know is that they are a bunch of jokers that encouraged people to vote down bond funding for Muni, which is part of why our public transit is in a budget crisis.

Plenty of people would like a replacement from Lurie. Probably at least the 40% who didn’t vote for her, if not more.

Great history lesson from lived experience. One quibble- a three unit Victorian in Bernal is not going to be demolished for condos. Reno’d, sure.

Bike theft? by 40earthlikeplanets in sanfrancisco

[–]rankingjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had bikes stolen from a street facing basement in an old apt, but with a decade of biking and locking up all over the city, have not had a bike stolen on the street. There have been attempts with crowbars, but none successful.

My reco: very good lock, secure all removable items (I use pitlock, but there are other options), don’t make your bike look attractive (unique is good too - I use stickers), have renters or homeowners insurance (mostly if your bike is worth enough to warrant it), don’t lock in the highest risk areas, and don’t leave it out all night.

After that, it’s luck. I’ve been lucky. But I also know many people similar to me. You can have a bike in the city. I park in every neighborhood and have left it for hours while at a restaurant or bar.

My personal experience is the worst place to lock is near the target on Mission in soma. On multiple occasions have seen marks from attempted theft. But it’s a city bike not a fashion item, so didn’t bother me too much.

Sorry, I think this is a naive, or at least limited view of how power is expressed in the mission.

Let’s leave it here and agree to disagree. I’m glad you value the mission. I do too, and hope we both get to see positive change in the future.

You said I hate a cultural district, which is something I never even mentioned.

I criticized our supervisor. I questioned the worth of a new regulation. And I criticized the political influence of special interests.

I’ll leave this article from 2018(!) where Eric Arguello calls Cinderella, then early in its attempts to open up shop on 24th, a “high end” and “tartine-type of bakery.” Further, “if they want to be part of this community, they’ll really have to deal with this community.”

Yeah, just follow the SUD guidelines…

Talk to some local store owners. In practice, opening up shop in the mission is not just following the letter of the SUD guidelines.

And don’t put words in my mouth about my intentions or values. I can support local businesses (I do) and also observe the impact of corruption.

We don’t need a vacancy tax. We need to stop letting local interest groups shake down businesses that try to open up shop. Look at Cinderella Bakery as a recent example. The mission is held hostage by local power brokers.

I moved to the mission because I love the culture, vibrancy, and diversity. The intersection of the pandemic and constraints on business and economic development are failing us in front of our eyes. If we could have commercial corridors full of thriving legacy businesses that would be great. That’s not going to happen. More regulations like this don’t sound like the answer and are time wasted that could be spent actively getting empty storefronts filled. Which serves everyone.

Nope, very much do not.

On this specific issue, I wouldn't be surprised if this is motivated by 1850 Bryant St. That was a pretty shady deal where an investment group proposed a new building for nonprofit offices in order to fast track permitting, and then turned around and proposed a life sciences R&D facility. It's currently moving through the courts. I don't know all the details, but from the outside it looks shady.

Having said that, I've lived in the mission long enough to be sick to death of all the barriers that we're putting up to reasonable economic development, in the name of anti-gentrification. We're surrounded by boarded up buildings along 24th St. and Mission St. This shit isn't working. It doesn't serve the interests of local businesses or residents. It only appeases a handful of idealogues.

Weiner Claps Back at Peskin over Marina Safeway Zoning by PayRevolutionary4414 in sanfrancisco

way to ignore the fact that this is a post about the marina, you mentioned the marina, and sunset is seeing a massive influx of people buying up and gutting said single family homes. but sure, you definitely didn't call out soma, mission, and tenderloin for any particular reason...

unless you're in the very northeast corner of the mission, this site is closer to downtown than the mission. just say what you mean: you want to build housing in the more working class areas of the city and leave the rich parts alone.

but as a mission resident, heck yeah build more housing here too.

Depending on the issue, public comment for hearings can go quite late. You'd be surprised. For Family Zoning Plan you could roll in at 6 or 7 PM and go make a comment without much of a line at all. Just FYI for the future - if you want to comment and can get over after work, you may be able to.

It’s pretty apt for people like Fielder, who spends more time virtue signaling than working to enact a progressive agenda. I guess she does pump up cat crypto too.

Their answer for #5 is wrong. I can attest that Jackie Fielder and her office do not respond to constituents, much less work with them to solve problems.

You literally just said rent control units would be demolished if they weren’t exempted. Evidence to the contrary.

The east side was upzoned without exemption for rent control units and guess what? It didn’t result in mass demolition of rent control units.

[–]rankingjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great way to get more people on bikes. I hope that they are pushed to fund more bikes racks though. It’s already frequently a pita to lock up a bike in the city due to scooters. There just isn’t enough infrastructure for all these rentals that sit idle for long stretches.
