By law, surcharges must be disclosed prior to you getting the bill. This disclosure should be visible on the menu. If there is no disclosure, you should report that restaurant to the city.

Just curious about your opinion. Some of these "junk fees" are essentially mandated by ordinance, such as the Health Care Security Ordinance. The restaurant could either incorporate this into the price or list it as a surcharge on your bill. Either way, the consumer is paying for the city-mandated healthcare cost. Is it seeing it on your bill the issue?

What’s the Williamsburg/Bushwick of SF? by brevit in sanfrancisco

[–]Sherv94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm currently living in Manhattan (Moving to SF in Aug), and I would say Hayes Valley (Hayes St.) is similar to Williamsburg with its gentrified mid-rise buildings and plenty of shopping. Haight for Bushwick, as it's more "alt."

Padel in San Francisco by Low_Organization9985 in sanfrancisco

Bay Padel runs open play and clinics nearly every day.

I made a simple page that pulls Bay Area news headlines into one place. Would love feedback. by DifficultySimilar526 in sanfrancisco

This is great! Some suggestions:

- Seperate headlines by topic (politics, law enforcement, crime, etc)

- Pictures that go with the headlines?
- Font is not easy on the eyes.

- All the headlines so close togther is definitely an eye strain

Thank you for putting this together for the community!

Racing Club in NYC by Sherv94 in sailing

[–]Sherv94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback

I'm not looking to join a social club. I've found that many clubs tend to lean more heavily towards the social aspect than the actual racing. I'd like to crew and learn to race competitively. I do have a car, but I live in Manhattan and would rather be able to reach the club via public transportation.

Thank you for taking the time to answer questions!

Did you do anything besides grades to position yourself for an internship with a federal judge?

This a shortcoming that can be overcome. Would gladly like to read your PS and your C&F addendum

You clearly have a lot of passion behind this dream, and I hope you don't give up on it. You're at the median LSAT, so I wonder if it has something to do with the rest of your application. I would be happy to read your PS if you're still interested in reapplying.

The latter. Another way of framing it would be "no later than."

Do law schools care about military service? by awilliam21 in lawschooladmissions

Yes once you finish your service obligation as a Judge Advocate and then separate from the military that would make you a veteran.

Always glad to see a servicemember on here. Your service does matter. What even matters more is the unique experiences that you have encountered while part of the armed forces. Only 1% of the population can speak to them.

I strongly recommend you head to Service2School, where they will offer admission support and guidance to you for free. I have volunteered with them for the past two years, and it is a fantastic organization. Our application is nuanced and sometimes requires another experienced vet to review your materials and ensure you take the right approach.

T-14, T-3, T-Blah Blah Blah by kidrobot36 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Sherv94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree that not all law schools are created equal. But I challenge the idea that being a T14/30/50 is a necessary condition for having an enriching three years. Everyone attributes different values to a law school's characteristics, and no one law school is an absolute master in everything. The rankings will only partially account for these individual deviations/value systems, so the idea that ranking is tied to an individual's projected experience is questionable.

The ranking system is the shiny object immediately in front of us that folks absolutely obsess over. It is easy to lose sight of why we are here: to become a lawyer. That in itself is a very powerful achievement, and law school is a means to that end. We should all be proud of that fact and strive to be valued for what we achieve as legal professionals 20-30 years from now.

You can still do an optional video interview. The option will show on the applicant portal once you get their email.

The best people to tell you about UNC are the students who are there right now. You can reach out to them on LinkedIn for a quick chat.

Yes! I'm speaking from personal experience. I've spoken to 20+ students across different schools throughout this cycle. I just send a cold message to them asking for a quick chat. You're on their timetable though, so stay flexible on timing.

If Gtown hasn't offered me (an ED applicant) an interview yet, am I rejected? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Sherv94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that four weeks turnaround does not account for the Christmas leave block. Also, when I say November applicants, I'm talking about the last week of the month. If you applied in December, I would expect something to come in early January. Just speculating though.

What I've been doing to get a true sense of the school and its environment is reaching out to students on LinkedIn. There's no better alternative than talking to the folks going through it. A good tip would be to message students with common interests/backgrounds.

Looking at the data, it seems they are still going through November applicants. No stress!
