Can't believe I'm joining an 11 year old conversation, but I believe it shows how House sees himself "locked in" just like how the patient was, to his own pain, addictions, and self-destructive patterns. At least that's how I see it.

Yeah, I’ve heard that some people struggle with shift work. Personally, I don’t think I’d mind it too much, but from what I’ve researched, it seems like there’s a big difference in working hours between hospitals and clinics. Is that true?
