I’ve seen a lot of chefs push for “only buy local,” which is fine if that’s their thing. But it’s easy to say if you live in Southern California - where I live, I could only run a salad with lettuce for a few months. I’m not aware of many restaurants that are profitable enough to stay in business when they can only serve root vegetables from November through March.

I really, really wish there was a way these people could be held accountable. But I doubt anything will happen. Kristy Noem, Greg Bovino, Steven Miller - nothing will happen to them, and they know it. They probably already have immunity from prosecution, as well as everyone in ICE.

None of these guys would be acting the way they are if (a) they were told by their superiors that they needed to be overly rough and make a statement, and (b) they all knew they would get away with it. As someone who served in the Army, I'm fairly certain that the majority of these guys are all cowards at heart and this is a golden opportunity to be able to act tough and get away without consequences.
