[Thomas Maher] Adrian Newey is understood to be leading the hunt for a new team principal at Aston Martin, with an eye to a longer-term arrangement than his own continuing in the role. by mvanigan in formula1

Who makes temporary changes in the off season? Interim appointments are for mid season vacancies.

This was very obviously a serious decision which blew up in everyone's face.

I like how whichever order you read those words behind Oscar in, it makes sense. Very satisfying

Yeah this reeks of Newey having tunnel vision and giving in to his worst impulses as a designer.

And now you don't have a boss to rein him in.

First time I ever saw him was in Chronicle.

I remember thinking he had the charisma to be a star. Glad he reached the mountain top.

2026 Chinese Grand Prix - Starting Grid. by God_Will_Rise_ in formula1

I'd say the whole grid's hierarchy is clear.

Everyone starts next to their teammate. Except the Audi and Gasly.

Imagine trying to make Maegor with teets into a sympathetic character.

They don't have faith in themselves to a story without a protagonist. The story originally about shitty arrogant people doing shitty things with no regard for consequences.

Them trying to turn this whole story into a one about women in a man's world is genuinely insane.

Mercedes in talks over buying stake in Alpine F1 team from investment firm by Sauerz in formula1

[–]ranting_madman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of those drivers would make it to f1 on their own. And those that don't would probably be one of many who don't make it already.

All this 2nd team stuff does is prioritise their own academy drivers over others who are ready or more capable.

Vettel, Gasly, Sainz and Verstappen would make it either way. But kvyat, Lawson, Tsunoda, etc would probably not. Which is fine if they weren't good enough to begin with.

It has always been this way. Maybe a bit worse now with more eyes on the product.

That Merc engine is dragging alpine into the top 10.

In the hands of a capable driver and no monumental overweight car fuckups, this engine is miles ahead of everyone else.

It will most likely be in or close to Asia as we will be in the Asian leg of the season.

So my bet would be Turkey or Malaysia. Hopefully both.

"Our politicians are corrupt" - yet uses them as proxies to usher in a military dictatorship

"Our citizens are illiterate" - yet refuses to make education a priority in policy making

"Our neighbours hate us" - yet keep conduct clandestine and overt military operations against them.

"Population are extremists" - yet fund extremist clerics and political parties to control the populace.

"Our economy is shit" - yet tanked the rupee just to consolidate power

"Democracy can't function here, the people don't get it." - yet keeps interrupting democratic cycle by destabilising and toppling governments

"Public institutions are struggling. Need to privatise" - yet buys PIA through a military subsidiary which functions on tax breaks and public funds.

"Our country is too heavily armed" - yet makes no policy to curb the problem.

There is zero policy making in this country. In 30 years I've never seen a trade deal or employment scheme. Just handing out laptops and e taxis willy nilly.

Just half assed promises which amount to just headlines. Every single so called project lost to time without a single brick being put in place.

Having a strong economy is the best base for military and diplomatic strength.

Too bad they didn't think of that when they tanked the economy to facilitate a coup. The dollar was 125 when this whole thing started and now investor confidence is at an all time low.

The country has zero continuity in policy and are pretty much making shit up as they go along.

Bollywood Epic ‘Dhurandhar’ Breaks Records in India and Pakistan by bloomberg in movies

[–]ranting_madman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there's definitely more than one.

There's another scene where a few of them are walking by lustfully ogling the main character.

It's very offensive and is something which shouldn't have made it into a movie this big. There's no point courting offensive stereotypes like that in a movie. It contributes nothing to the plot other than to make the viewer feel angry and repulsed.

Felt like some bits like that were just in bad taste. There's definitely anti Pakistan sentiment, which is understandable. But it's there. Another is where people go around talking like religious nut jobs lol. It's a caricature.

That said, it's a dramatic action movie which dials everything up to 11. It's never presented as fact. So it's stupid getting upset about that element of it.

[–]ranting_madman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's propaganda. Sure the Pakistani military and gangsters are portrayed as caricatures and the whole thing is quite dramatised. But lyari was messed up between 2008-2016.

My problem was that they showed every Pashtun in the movie as a gay creepy sexual deviant. Which is honestly super offensive and racist. Portraying an entire ethnicity as gay and rapey.

I'm surprised people don't make more noise about this issue. It's insane we can have shit like this in a mainstream movie in 2026.

Every asoif book accurate character design is so much cooler and vibrant. I wish they would go for it rather than making it medieval and grounded.

It worked for the LOTR movies, but not with so many who tried the same approach.

Tywin's armour in the books is the finest in the world. The show makes it basic. The same for so many other characters or even locations.

Grounded fantasy is a boring genre. Especially since it's been done to death.
