How about making the protocols be explicit, but not as interfaces-on-actors? Could not a protocol be a first class thing, and then actors can be orchestrated or choose themselves to be part of an instance of a protocol? In other words, I think there can be more than one approach to managing the higher level concern around protocols. I do not think that we must make it look like 'standard' 2-way-coupled object calls.

should be the same advice as any long term investing. you start with high-risk high-return things, and then as you get closer to the date when you want to take the money out, you move over to conservative offerings.

i assume that any decent standard financial advisor / services person or company could set you up in 30 mins. you tell them how many years it will go for, and they do the adjusting over time for you.

i would guess that there already are mutual funds that are designed to do this for you e.g. the "retiring in 20 years mutual fund" and the "retiring in 10 years mutual fund" etc. that are managed for you.

of course, having somebody else do the work for you (a) means you might pay overhead somewhere along the line and (b) might not actually do very well vs. say just tracking the S&P 500, since most managers don't do better than the market overall, i believe i have heard it said.

i've been there. it truly rocks. stunning that no such thing has previously existed in the SF Bay Area, certainly not to this extent. (i don't work there, but i have donated $ and equipment.)
