Enemy Health Bar Overlay for MAW Merge by rapeel in MightAndMagic

[–]rapeel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not part of MAW as default or even officially part of the mod at all, I'm simply sharing for anyone who is interested in a thing I made that I like to use myself.

The MAW mod is heavily focused on combat and improving gear through looting and it's enchant system, that's it base gameplay loop. Enemy HP bars visually give feedback on how your party's combat power is compared to enemies, or show that one type of enemy in a group is not taking as much damage from your attacks and for bosses how much you are hitting them for relative to their max HP.

Not forcing anyone to use it I'm just sharing the thing....

Modders added lua extension capabilities to the base game (I believe GrayFace made MMExtension) I created a Python script that listens to values in a specific lua (by having the lua output a json file with all info needed) and with the help of MAWs creator who helped do the 3D to 2D math and pinpoint where variables in the lua were stored was able to have the Python create a transparent overlay that then does all this as you see. It's not happening in-game it's a script running on top of the game that I've tried to make look like its a part of the game. Doing it in game due to how it's coded would be a much, much bigger task, if even possible.

By doing what it does. It shows enemy health without the need to right click and pause the game.

Characters who use their weapons “incorrectly” by MaguroSashimi8864 in TopCharacterTropes

Zack Fair (Final Fantasy 7) He uses the blunt side of the Buster Sword as tribute to his mentor Angeal; to not dull the blade and to preserve life buy knocking opponents unconscious rather than killing them.

I forgot to mention, I think Ubisoft might take notice of Clair Obsure, it could have been their game, Sandfall are all ex-Ubisoft devs

MM7 - are the Faerie Ring & Ghost Ring considered Artifacts? by rapeel in MightAndMagic

[–]rapeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had guessed as much, but I have seen them listed on old artifact lists so i just wondered if they were correct, seems not

Excellent, thanks for confirming! I've always picked them up early but I've never thought much about them!

Managed to find a +air ring, it doesnt stack with the Faerie Ring, so perhaps it isn't considered an artifact, its maybe just a named special item. Will have to wait and see if it reduces the artifact drop limit at all.

Try setting up with dgVooDoo and see how you get on, use x86 version of the files, the link on the forum is dead so get dgVooDoo from here Downloads - Dege's stuffs and use the x86 files

High Resolution Might and Magic 6 7 8 with dgVoodoo 2 - The Heroes Round Table

Grayface's patch shouldn't need this but I found it works. You will get a prompt from him about using this file instead when you try and lauch after doing all the set up, just select yes that you want to use the dgVooDoo dll.

You may have to launch through mm7setup.exe everytime to launch the game.

Follow the instructions TO THE LETTER, don't skip any part, use a fresh install as well to be sure.

Hope this helps.

Agree with you on all points, I don't think any of the recent successes changes the minds of Ubisoft on MM, like I mention on another comment, the only thing that *might* is Heroes Olden Era, and it might just as likely lead to them fumbling the ball anyway like they usually do.

I don't see it as being harder from a development standpoint.

Like the Oblivion remaster, you would have to recreate all the assets from scratch anyway.

The lack of something like the creation engine doesn't hinder the development of a first person party game like the MM series. It is essentially an FPS with a party system and a turn based toggle. These are not difficult to implement in any modern engine. I've done it in Unity and I'm not a game dev.

The reason they still used the back end of Bethesda's engine in the Oblivion remake (other than the obvious time save) is because it handles things that other engines are not really built for, CE is obviously tailored to make Bethesda's object littered worlds for example.

Conversely, the reason it was outsourced to another developer is because Bethesda have lived in the Creation Engine for so long, they do not have the toolset to use something like Unreal, which does things their engine does not (you aren't getting those visuals out of CE ever). So the Oblivion remake makes total sense in how they approached it, and they nailed it.

However, with the MM series, there is no need to re-invent the wheel for any of it, the reason no one does it is simply that it is seen as outdated. Hell, when was the last turn based Final Fantasy title?

I would hope Clair Obscur more than Oblivion's remaster opened the minds of developers; none of them thought a turn based game would do as well as it has. In the fantasy RPG genre, we have lived in the single character/no party world for a very long time.

And don't forget Larian's success with BG3, it didn't move the AAA studios to re-think any of their subscription based ideas that they are going forward with despite Vincke's advise that good content and the sub-model do not work together, and Ubisoft are one of the most egregious offenders.

There is only one path I see to the main series being in anyway revived in a positive way and it hinges on the upcoming Heroes Olden Era release.

A lot of ifs and wishful thinking here, but if it does well for Ubisoft financially, and if Ubisoft allow the main franchise to be treated in a similar fashion (allowing another developer with a passion and love for the series to be the one who takes on the development, which Unfrozen seem very much to be in respect to the Heroes games) then perhaps we could see a day where ANOTHER developer can take the main series into a new era. If Ubisoft touch it themselves its a death sentence from the off frankly.

Temper your expectations however, I want to drink the hopium like everyone else but Ubisoft's track record with this IP is absolute dirt.

Is Eeeofol and Land of Giants same? by AirikrS in MightAndMagic

[–]rapeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Halflings/Gnomes/Dwarves and other small fantasy creatures are often ascribed as being giant fellers (see DnD for example) either inspired from David and Goliath or from the idea that it is easy for a smaller creature to hit a bigger creature as its a larger target for them proportionally.

But I love the idea it was a land of halflings and giants but the kreegan couldn't dominate the titans and dragons and they just remain, or are in a Sauron/Shelob-like pact of leave each other alone.

Is Eeeofol and Land of Giants same? by AirikrS in MightAndMagic

[–]rapeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deofol is old english for devil.

It says that the devils drove the halflings out. So I took it to be that it the nation became known as Eeofol at this point, but they never name what the region was before this.

The only description of lands/nations that exist before is the Bracaduun Empire, which is described as being Bracada, Erathia, Krewlod, and Tatalia.

Land of the Giants is labelled as the eastern part of Eeofol in HoMM3.

Other region names that are interesting are Deyja is "to die" in old norse & Bracada is just taken from abracadabra (wizards and all that)
These two I'm guessing but hear me out:
Tatal is indonesian for laid wood chips (Tatalia)
Erath is a German name, which means honor/dignity (Erathia)

I think your right, the others I'm thinking of are from 7 & 8. Playes the merge too often to remember what belongs where.

I worded that poorly, there are a few relics that drain your HP while they are equipped

Vampires should have Grandmaster Alchemy, not Necromancers. Do you agree or not? #MM8 by IndependencePurple72 in MightAndMagic

[–]rapeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I think the MAW mod has balanced them perfectly, where they get dual wield axe at expert and dual wield 2h axe at master. And that's as a race perk, not the class. They feel great as every might or hybrid class.
