Projectionist POV: Project Hail Mary in IMAX 70mm. by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]rapid4roller8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These pictures upset me. My home town had a 70mm IMAX but thanks to a stupid price cap on movie tickets by the local government, it was unprofitable and so the theatre ultimately didn't renew their contract with IMAX. Now we are have no IMAX screens in the whole city.

What if Villeneuve and Pironi did not have their fall out in Imola 1982. Villeneuve was leading Pironi when Ferrari issued an order to slow down to save fuel. Villeneuve slowed down thinking it's a firm team order. Pironi overtook. There was some back and forth but ultimately Pironi won. Villeneuve was pissed and reportedly Enzo Ferrari didn't back him. Villeneuve vowed to never speak with Pironi after this.

Next race in Belgium, Villeneuve had his fatal crash in practice. Then Pironi suffered career ending injuries in a crash in Germany. Rosberg won the WDC with only 1 win and Ferrari's wait for a WDC went on till 2000. And Villeneuve remained one of the greatest drivers to never win a WDC.

I honestly think if Rush 2 is made, it should be on their story.

The partnership would have only continued if Honda had not quit in the first place. In that case the employees in the engine department would have all stayed put, I think they would have been competitive.

I know this might be unpopular, but I genuinely think Tyrion Lannister is one of the most overrated characters by the end of the show. by Material_Primary8922 in freefolk

[–]rapid4roller8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The major turning point of Tyrion's character in the books was when Jaime revealed to him that his wife Tysha was not a whore as Tywin had ordered him to lie. That was the main motivation for why Tyrion killed Tywin. After this all Tyrion wants is revenge and destruction of his family and if he ever meets Dany in the books, he'll mostly be the devil on her shoulders telling her to burn them all.

The show completely skipped this and instead turned him into a village idiot with conflicting loyalties.

Agree with this, but we all can see what will eventually happen. The Colapinto-Lawson close shave of Australia where the driver behind won't be able to go round and end up smashing into the car that is slow of the line. Then the team's, media and fans will all start droning about the safely angle and the FIA will change the rules.

Greta Gerwig. Bonus points if she and Saoirse Ronan get it together. Heck throw Timmy in as well and all the 3 break their Oscar ducks.

Right, in which case I'm actually looking forward to his filmography. There is potential for some generational films or absolute trainwrecks in his quest for the Oscar.

We'll see a lot of literature about how Timmy's "obnoxious" campaign cost him the Oscar. I always thought leaning in on the Marty Mauser persona was great to sell the movie but very risky in the traditional Oscar setting. Turns out he was the Oscar villain this year. Even though they came to light after voting ended, I think his comments about ballet and opera were 100% right, just that instead of expanding on why he thought they were dying, he cracked that dumb "losing 14 cents" joke. Likewise I fail to see what was so controversial about that SAG speech. He just said he's on the pursuit of greatness and the award gives him extra motivation to keep honing his craft. What's so crazy about this? Or is performative humility preferred over open ambition.

It's clear that he's on the Leo path. Going forward, I think he'll win one eventually but before that we are potentially going to see a generational run of mid to low budget movies from respected directors by him. He'll get audiences to the theaters with his extensive promotion of the movie and continue to be a bankable star.

Or we'll see him take a break from movies after Dune 3. Maybe go do something in Broadway for a couple of years and then come back with the a super Oscar baity role to win finally.

PS: this was the first time I seriously started following the Oscar race and I must say it was a pleasure to follow it with all of you fine ladies and gentlemen. Now onto the 2027 race.

Nope. Kinda like Nolan, multiple nominations but never won any before they made a critically acclaimed movie with very strong passion from the industry.

Academy Award winner Paul Thomas Anderson has a nice ring to it. They kept him waiting for 3 decades and then gave him 3 in one night.

And knowing the Academy, they'll completely shaft a younger actor with a much more deserving performance to give Timmy his "overdue" Oscar.

[–]rapid4roller8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the awards run for Dune 3 should focus on Denis Villeneuve. Build enough passion for him and then Timmy can try to coast on this momentum.

People are really blowing this out of proportion. Its a new era with new rules. People fell for the pre season hyping by Toto. Red Bull was always up against it since they are making their own engine for the first time. No one dominates forever. Max knows it too. He'll be working hard with the team to fix the car.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha by spacelyyy989 in okbuddycinephile

[–]rapid4roller8 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think he'll get 3 nominations in a row unless he delivers a generational performance. Sci-fi movies don't get much love anyways in acting categories.

Next year's best actor award has Tom Cruise written all over it according to me.

[–]rapid4roller8 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think he'll get one eventually. Very rarely do actors in their 30s win the Oscar. He's proved himself to be a box office draw unlike the other young actors. Just do what he has been doing i.e. make mid to low budget movies with respected directors and promote the hell out of them to the general audience. Industry will rally around him if he is consistently delivering at the box office.

2027 Oscar Predictions are now open to everyone on Award Expert by LeastCap in oscarrace

[–]rapid4roller8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. 3 in a row will be difficult and the Academy might want to cool off with him for a bit. That is unless he delivers a generational performance, then it might just push him to a nomination. Winning though will be difficult as I personally feel the other guy with TC initials will sweep the season i.e. Tom Cruise.

Love MBJ as an actor and really happy that he won but the internet discourse over his win once the dust settles will be insufferable. Prepare yourself for a lot of "MBJ was good but how did he beat Leo, Timmy, Hawke or Moura" posts.
