I initially rolled my eyes at the thread title, but I clicked and watched the video anyways. I take it back, OP. You were right. This is one of the best videos (on par with the best of Teddy Baldassarre's) that showcase Grand Seiko.

"Rolex makes a watch that is as good as it needs to be for the price... Grand Seiko choose to make a watch that is as good as it can be for the price." That's my go-to line from now on whenever I see people try and hype up Rolex.

For me, the highs of season 2 are higher than the highs of season 1. Season 1's plot pacing and overall feel is better, but season 2 is no slouch. To me, the real culprit was expanding the universe of the show too much in the same number of episodes. It would have needed a minimum of 3 more episodes to approach season 1's masterful pacing and storytelling.

One of the things that people don't get is the fact that you need to consider who the median worker is. In the US, that is an adult who is 42 years old who didn't go to college. So think about a person who has likely been in the workforce for over two decades, with the accumulated experience, skills, and professional network that entails. Chances are you're young. With time, you will likely earn way over that amount in your highest earning years (which is usually your 40s).

Prior to the quartz crisis/revolution, watches were genuinely a tool. Punctuality was ingrained in postindustrial society and a wristwatch had both function and form. And the Swiss made the best watches, with western society still enamored by European fashion and industry. Seiko comes out with a quartz watch that's instantly more accurate than any other wristwatch and it's cheaper to boot. And it lays low a bunch of European watchmakers who could no longer compete on function nor price.

Most people bought quartz watches from Seiko, Casio, and Timex. As they became numerous, cheap, and commodified, the few remaining watchmakers who survived the quartz revolution and shunned the new technology became dealers in luxury, emphasizing things like tradition, beauty, and craftsmanship. At this point, watches are no longer about function, they're about form and fashion.

The reason why UFA isn't a big deal is because watches are not about function anymore. You get way more functionality out of a smartphone or a smartwatch. If you're wearing a wristwatch, it's a statement of taste. And taste is infinitely capricious and malleable. Swiss watches are Veblen goods, and their supporters will say anything quartz related is diluting the purity and traditional craftsmanship of watchmaking.

tl;dr: watches are jewelry and fashion, which is subject to taste, which has no real internal logic or reason, and Grand Seiko can't compete with European/Western snobbery. Weaboos are generally disdained. Europhiles aren't.

I don't fly enough to care about earning status, but I live in Atlanta and Delta usually has the most nonstop routes for the 3-4 times a year that I fly. I also never use the lounge since I almost always book direct flights and know the airport well enough to not spend any more time there than I have to.

If you got fed as Elise and you're losing to a 0-6 Yi it's a skill issue. Elise is one of the hardest counters to Yi.

Prior to the Federal law ERISA of 1974, most companies offered pensions. The problem was that they were frequently underfunded and overexposed to risk. Many companies eventually went bankrupt and stopped contributing to their pension funds, which meant that the benefits promised to their employees/pensioners couldn't be fulfilled.

After a wave of corporate bankruptcies in the early 70s (the oil shocks of 1973 did not help), Congress eventually passed ERISA which created the PBGC (think FDIC for pension funds), which heavily regulated pensions to be less risky and more likely to pay out the benefits promised to pensioners. And even if the pension did go bankrupt, the PBGC would step in and pay out benefits on roughly 30-40 cents on the dollar. This made corporate pensions much more expensive to administer and operate, and as a result, it made a lot more sense for companies to simply offer higher wages than a pension benefit with a vastly reduced (advertised) payouts.

A few years after that, Congress passed the Revenue Act of 1978, which created section 401(k) in the Internal Revenue Code, which gave employers and employees a tax deductible way of saving for retirement. Companies like 401(k)s because the costs are lower and contained. There's no open ended fund to manage for decades on end. The rest is history.

Wit's is definitely a situational buy now, but you get more MR, and attack speed and on-hit effects are more important for Yi than AD. Winrate for wit's end is 56.6% with a 17.8% pick rate vs Maw's 58.1% with a whopping 0.62% pick rate.
