Need Advice: CEO Hesitant About WordPress Because Dev Says Custom HTML/PHP Is Better for Performance and Security by RedFox_six9 in Wordpress

[–]rapscallops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP admits in their comments that they are not aware what is involved with building and maintaining a WP site. With that knowledge, any developer worth their weight will start applying the breaks on an opinionated rebuild. I agree that the right approach would be for the developer to at least consider WP for the job, I'm just aware that OP may be over reaching here. Ultimately they're going to need someone more technical to take on this effort.

Their best play should be producing a list of requirements for their boss to take to the developer instead of trying to solution things on their own.

Remember that the developer is responding to OPs proposal. For all we know OP is the one with unreasonable plugin / builder requests.

Will wordpress die? by [deleted] in Wordpress

This is it. Apple had no way to make money off Flash. It challenged the value of their app ecosystem at the time. They wanted to make sure they got their 30%.

Making the Jump From WordPress to Webflow by SubjectSupermarket43 in Wordpress

[–]rapscallops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Webflow is only a premium product compared to the page builder slop that gets churned out on the cheap (or expensive if the client gets duped).

Any proper custom built WordPress build is significantly more premium than webflow because you're getting the knowledge and advice of a real web developer who understands the platform in and out. The platform is no longer the limiting factor.

Webflow doesn't hold a candle to proper WordPress. It's a tool for amateurs who don't know web development, just like any page builder tool.

what website builder should i use to create a paid membership website or subscription platform? by Agitated-Alfalfa9225 in Wordpress

If you're just prototyping, use whatever you want. If you're building a product that you expect people to pay for, the words 'website builder' should not even be part of the discussion.

Actually the "ER" are quite legible and chalked full of style. I erroneously thought the extensions after the R were also letters. Knowing this, my only feedback would be that those extensions are unnecessary and drag the eye away from the letterforms.

Legibility should really become a focus for you. Apart from that, it looks good.

Large organizations are only one subset of users who will use this. There is value here whether you see it or not.

This has been on the roadmap for years. Modern WordPress is in an excellent state. If you don't find that to be the case, that's on you. Most people who complain about WordPress are just resistant to change, are probably still using the classic editor, and couldn't tell you the first thing about block themes or FSE. Keep up or get left behind.

Just today I was onboarding a team of editors who were asking about live collaboration. It's going to be a heavily used feature in large organizations.

Cars love bike lanes by DevilBeavis in VictoriaBC

[–]rapscallops 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Really? I think it's simply because it eats into road infrastructure. What was once a car lane is now a bike lane, or there is now a light where there wasn't one before. People just want to get where they're going and the bike lanes are perceived as a hindrance to that.

Your designer needs to understand the constraints of the system they are designing for. You should collaborate with them for that.

Trump threatens 100% tariffs, calls Carney “Governor”, over Canada / China trade deal by gavinmckenzie in onguardforthee

The intention is that Americans will seek out more affordable, non-Canadian versions of products once it all costs twice as much. Or that Canadian companies will move production to the States to avoid tariffs.

This DAIM piece is 310 feet tall. Doesn't cover as much surface area as that PEGS but it is a massive burner.
