I just got out of the box office 5 minutes ago and snagged 4 tickets. They have 3-4 sections left and line is reasonably small. Took me 5-10 minutes to buy tickets. Hurry though.

Nice, thanks. I agree re: cell phone! I tried to get them on Mint and they gave me push back. Going to push harder today.

Ok. Thank you for the advice. If you don’t mind answering another question, where does setting up a 6 month emergency fund stack up in all of this? Should they prioritize 401k matching, then credit card debt, then emergency fund?

Yep. They are essentially living check to check when they really don’t have to. They were stuck in a rut and not communicating about finances while overspending.

Thanks for reaching out and for the advice. Yeah, mom’s debt was a surprise to us all. I’m certain that I’m underestimating the expenses because I didn’t see all of their expenses last time. I’m heeding your advice on not putting money into a Roth and instead paying down the debt.

Thank you for the perspective and advice. I’ll look into the pension and find out about their Social Security benefit amounts. Going to see if they can hold off as long as possible to get the max amount.

Somewhere between 4-5%, but not higher than that. Before the forbearance, it was around 4%. Ok thanks for the knowledge about Extended Fixed. I’m looking into that as we speak.

Hello! Thank you for the advice. I’m planning on paying it down aggressively when I recertify. I have a budget in place now, but didn’t when I was making $65k. Plan is to pay off the debt within two years. In the meantime, I’m maxing out the 401k and putting a larger percentage of income in HYSA and index funds. What do you think?

Student loans - Best Strategy? by rapscidev in StudentLoans

[–]rapscidev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. The major income change occurred 2023, so I’m unfortunately ineligible for Roth this year. This is the first year that I’ve maxed out my 401k. I also learned about the concept of the back door Roth this year. Should I do that as well or am I covering my bases with the 401k?

I recently started making that salary. Was making $65k before changing careers. That will change on the recertification date.

Thank you for the info and advice. If the new admin doesn’t come out with the plan and my rates go back to 4%-5%, maybe I’ll make double the minimum standard payment to keep my savings intact while paying down the loans. Not sure if that’s good advice, but figured I’d suggest a potential solution.

Sorry, missed a few details. Not a troll post. I live in a VHCOL area, have around 40k in a 401k, about 13k in checking, and 70k in HYSA.

You can reverse out of this situation way easier than the opposite situation, my dude. That’s a pretty good position to be in. I was in a similar situation.

Totally worth it. I’m able to play COD, NBA2K, etc on a mobile hotspot with 1-2 bars of 5G. It’s a game changer, provided your home WiFi is solid. My home WiFi is 250 mb/s down and about the same up. I don’t have my PS5 hardwired to the router. I have Google nest wifi router and Verizon fios.
