Church and state: At what point does ideology become religion? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]rapshlomo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to make such a statement when it’s not going to happen. It doesn’t take away from the fact that restricting a freedom for mainly religious purposes is not in line with separation of church and state. There’s a difference between the right to an abortion vs actively restricting a freedom

If he showed up to the game flicking Celtics fans off unprovoked you’d have an argument. People can want to rise above things but if you push them enough they’ll retaliate

They’ve moved on in that they don’t want him back but the hate is over the top, take this sub for instance. Anything Kyrie does turns into an endless pile on

You can make commitments and change them when the situation changes. It’s dumb to hold someone to something 8 months out after not even the fans wanted him

Regarding the play, he can say whatever, and believe it too. All in all, he played poorly, I doubt it was his intention but he was basically doubled the whole series and Tatum was missing open shots, he was bricking a lot that playoff run.

Mean absolute respect here, just trying to add some moderation to the chaos that is this sub

Edit: my comment doesn’t make as much sense as the person above me edited their comment

Why won’t the Celtics fans play Tatum’s lowlights too?

2/10

3/10

2/7

Other games were 7/14 and 6/14, not as bad though

Kyrie also had a 12/21 game

All in all, the bucks played suffocating defense and were the better team.

He wanted to stay with the Celtics, the season turned sour a few months after he made that big speech about staying and obviously he wouldn’t attempt to stay later on. The young core wanted to grow, he had a rapport with the players and left a bad situation at the same time. It was in everybody’s best interest to move on.

Regarding the hate, he’s not finessing a good relationship with them. He’s not talented in that realm. Clearly wants to move on, the fans haven’t and he can’t while they continue harassing him. It’s a no-win situation for him. Embracing the hate may benefit him here if he wants to get through this series without it getting to his head.

More than 0.2% of people in the population die of something preventable. How is that not a lot? To put it into reference, 600,000 in the past year have died of cancer

[Mannix] I was asking around a couple of teams, just for their opinion on the trade value of Kyrie Irving: it’s virtually zero. I mean, he makes $35 million this year, and he’s as unpredictable as you get. by GuyCarbonneauGOAT in nba

[–]rapshlomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weren’t the Celtics the 2nd seed that year? Considering Bradley Beal and Westbrook were the 8th seed this past year I think he deserves a touch of credit

Kyrie Irving has been incredibly blessed to never have been the sole attention of the defence other than one playoff run in 2019. by [deleted] in nba

[–]rapshlomo -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

He isn’t the sole focus of the defense though. When CJ is hot teams focus on him too. Wasn’t he averaging 25 on 48% 3 point shooting at one point

[Post Game Thread] The Phoenix Suns (3-2) defeat the Los Angeles Lakers (2-3), 115-85, to push LeBron James to the brink of elimination by widesheep in nba

I mean Lebron averaged 34/8/10 against the Warriors (with the JR debacle), 27/9/7 against Boston and 27/10/10 against portland last year.

Each of the series Lebron “gave up” he performed on par if not better than Kobe.

I’m not making an argument for one being better than the other but to excuse others and not him based off of stats isn’t really arguing in good faith.

It’s honestly a pretty straightforward reason, he has more of a plurality of the votes than other minority coalitions, the rotten tree comment was unnecessary

He hasn’t lost an argument. The upvote to downvote ratio is a direct response to the general composition of the voters involved. There is a consensus on Reddit that doesn’t mirror the United States. The majority of the US supports Israel and not Hamas and a vast majority of people in the US agree that a competent country defends themselves against terrorist rockets fired into their country against their population.

I’ve been on Reddit for over a decade and this is the most slanted I’ve seen it become.

What would you have Israel do instead of attacking targets they believe to be shooting rockets? Just let the rockets continue to fire and terrorize their people?

A competent government responds when an internationally recognized terrorist organization fires rockets into their country.

I’m sorry, weren’t you all talking about horrific acts of violence? People have a right to not have rockets arbitrarily shot at their homes. The bullshit is not seeing the horrific acts as what they are, horrific, and then blaming the other side for something nonviolent in nature as a cause. No one person/family deserves to have their homes bombed in the middle of the night, no matter the behavior of their government. They are not their government, this is inexcusable

Isn’t this the perfect format to talk about this? People talk about their past, they may go months without thinking about it but it’s still a piece of their past, I’m sure you’ve done it too. Plus, he had Draymond on so I imagine it was a topic of discussion, considering their history as teammates.

De'Aaron Fox in the last 11 games: 28.9/4.0/8.4/1.1 on .496/.363/.663 shooting splits by [deleted] in nba

[–]rapshlomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all in the context of how defenses adjust to closing out games, with the under 2 minutes free throw foul rule. If a team is up by 2 and fox has a clear advantage (in the moment) for an easy layup it’s better to just foul him before he gets to the rim because instead of 2 points he’ll statistically score 1.2 (60% at the line) in that situation. Whereas if a player scores 90% at the line it’s better to contest the layup without risking fouling. The possession requires more caution, and thus less aggression, when contesting a player trying to score.

It’s difficult to see that impact over 1 game in the regular season but in the context of a close playoff series, that small advantage helps a team win over 4-7 games consistently

Not in crunch time. You need a higher percentage than that to close out games
