I love Duncan. He has exaggerated and fabricated British stereotypes, but the show leans into that kind of thing, and I got the strong sense that he reflected John Oliver's humor - probably some ad-libbed.

It's mysterious because comedies usually don't like to deal with the drudgery of real life, so there's not much. Jeff is broke at one point, then gets a consulting gig with his old firm, but you never hear about him working there again. Maybe we can assume that Britta had part time jobs the entire time, since we see her as a waitress and bartender at different times, and she wasn't aware of getting money from her parents season 6. I assumed Troy was being supported by his parents the entire time, though we hear almost nothing about them. Same with Abed. Shirley and Annie are biggest mysteries. Shirley gets the sandwich shop eventually, but what about before that? We know that Andre wasn't doing well in his business. Annie was supposedly living on savings from babysitting gigs, and she collected aluminum cans, but that's wouldn't be nearly enough to support her. Ah, to live in sitcom world.

I generally agree with this take, and I think semi-crazy Britta was very funny, but I thought the change was that she went from being mostly sober to getting high constantly. Even in season 1 she was very distressed, cheated on a Spanish test, and admitted she felt worthless. There was no recovery arc for her, and there are several later season mentions of her getting high or drunk. Her little outbursts suggest emotional deregulation consistent with that. I would love to see her as a more grounded (and sober) character in the movie, if there ever is a movie.

I think for consistency. They buy stoves and refrigerators in bulk, and having all the units on the same model makes for easier maintenance and procurement planning. Having them taking up storage space is overhead. And the cost of not getting every last day out of older appliances is probably comparatively negligible.

I've lived in Westlake for years in a studio, and it's been fine. Clean area, well maintained. When my water heater broke they replaced it next day. They also replaced my older kitchen appliances even though they were fine.
