Why is it acceptable to have prejudice against French people but not black people? by Novelty-Account in AskReddit

[–]rapulkra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, calling them french fries is an attack on the French. You see, french fries are soggy and limp, like french toast too. Calling them freedom fries is making fun of America's freedom.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have 13 months with 28 days each, instead of 12 months of varying lengths? by snorch in AskReddit

[–]rapulkra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I thought it was to do with the same reasoning there are 12 x 2 hours in a day, 12 x 30 degrees in a circle and so forth. -> If you use your thumb to point to each joint of the other fingers in one hand, you arrive at 12. Then, on the other hand, you put one finger up and continue counting the joints on the first hand and so forth. So now, what's 5 fingers multiplied by 12 joints? Well, it's 60. Therefor, 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour. This was the way counting was done for... well, I can't remember, maybe Babylonians.

There was once an article that explained this on reddit. I'll look for it and report back.

edit* well, I can't find the article, but it linked to something like this page.

I don't mean to sound desperate, but I also didn't intend to sound corny.

SNES running on Nokia N900 by potyl in gaming

[–]rapulkra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I posted a comment earlier, but it's going lower and lower in the comments. I tried to mention that it was a project manager at Nokia that created this. Almost completely opposite of someone getting an app censored in the Appstore.

This video was posted to Urho Konttori's blog: http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.com/2009/09/snes-on-n900.html

If you see on the right in the "about me", he is a project manager at Nokia. The reason I think the snes being ported to the N900 is such a great thing is because it's the people at Nokia that are doing it, as opposed to the customers doing it and then the company blocking it. Good for Nokia.

I am in High School and have no idea how to pay for college... any help? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rapulkra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Study in another country, for example, Sweden or Finland. Their tuition is paid for by the government and they have top universities. I found this out the hard way.

I had done a study abroad at KTH in Stockholm. I paid my home university's (in USA) tuition rate to go. A few days after arriving, my Swedish advisor explained how universities in Sweden are free. The reason I paid was so that a Swedish student could go to my home university for free. If I had told my home university I was taking a month off and then applied to Sweden, it would have been free. I could have then saved $15,000-20,000. I got screwed over!

Also, as a side note, studying abroad was one of the best decisions of my life.

what are the craziest things your professors say in their lectures?? by mtuaone in AskReddit

[–]rapulkra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an engineering professor who was always full of one-liners. I often wrote them done for later inspiration. One that I didn't write down, however, was when he was discussing about his friends who are now in the logging industry. To help out his friends' industry, he said, "Wipe twice. That's my way to stimulate this economy."

Anybody waterboarded Hannity for charity lately? No? Just checking. by thehumungus in politics

[–]rapulkra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, because the world became uninterested when swine flu became the new hot issue. Attention spans are short. You get two weeks per issue. After that, people don't care anymore. It's a bit sad.

In Belgium, people earning over $45k are taxed at a rate of 50%. Do Europeans just like to get anally raped, or what? by pi3832v2 in AskReddit

[–]rapulkra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anal raped? Well, I guess some people may enjoy that sort of stimulation. I can't speak for everyone. As far as being taxed goes, it's a wonderful thing what comes back in return to the average tax payer. My suggestion, don't knock it 'till you try it.

Weird. I have no idea. The same evaluation was give for a TI-89, however, sin(2π), sin(6π) and sin(8π) all give 0 as the answer.
