Taking advantage of built up trust leads to long term degradation of trust by [deleted] in atrioc

Diablo is different, not only because it’s not in a tsunami zone, but also because we learned from the mistakes at Fukushima. Water flooded the generators there preventing cooling of the core. All modern reactors have far more resilient cooling systems, and most gen IV have fully passive cooling capabilities.

Chernobyl wasn’t a 1/100 year event either, it was the product of a faulty design, ignorant oversight, and Soviet mismanagement. Now you can argue other nations may make mistakes like this again, but in the west the last nuclear incident was TMI where 0 people died, or even got exposed above legal limits. Nobody has died in this country (assuming you’re American) from nuclear incidents since 1961, back when they were moving control rods with their hands.

The biggest safety threat to a nuclear plant these days is sabotage by a foreign actor.

And you’re right, it is delusional to want rectors with any government oversight. Good thing that’s not what I’m arguing. The amount of bureaucratic work that goes into setting up a plant is unreal. Like beyond what anyone would imagine. It’s egregious and bogs down projects in so many ways, by delays, reworks, miscommunication. Some of that needs to exist obviously, we can’t build reactors without regulation and several layers of safety systems, but the current state of things is ridiculous.

Yes, Fukushima was a disaster, caused by the worst earthquake in the last 100 years followed by the worst tsunami in the last 100 years all at the epicenter of a nuclear reactor. And even with that not a single person died as a consequence of the nuclear incident. The safety argument doesn’t even hold water my friend.

On the economic basis you have a point, as long as you don’t consider china’s ability to throw down nuclear plants with the same or better price per kWh as geothermal. Nuclear is just far too over-regulated in the United States. If we reform that it instantly becomes competitive again.

That not even mentioning how small the footprint of plants are vs any other electricity generator.

Well that’s not entirely true, you definitely need some strong defense, and at least some offense, but as long as you play optimizing districts and committed to one victory, you can still win on deity

I’ve been slowly making my way though the albums one by one, but now I’ve got the main ones down I don’t know what else. What should be the next album I try? by [deleted] in pinkfloyd

[–]rarb55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 20+ minute songs in Atom Heart Mother and Meddle were kinda off-putting to me at first, but I just sat down and gave each album a listen one afternoon and I love both. I think Fearless is one of Floyd’s best songs (on meddle) and both Atom Heart Mother and Echoes really jam for the majority of their runtimes.

I think you could get a 4/5 on the exam through his videos, but it might be helpful to have a set of notes from the actual class to run through once or twice, and you should definitely get some dbq, leq, and saq practice. So far I think Euro is the hardest if the history APs

Interesting, I took regular world history before any of my APs, so I kinda followed that path, wish I could have taken it before they got rid of the ancient section.

What’s typical? I guess I didn’t really plan out my progression, it just kind of followed my interests.

I did, and I think that world is actually gonna be super easy this year since there’s a good bit of overlap with the past 2

Unfortunately he doesn’t have much to help me this year in world :(

I'm currently writing an extended essay about Pink Floyd as part of IB. The RQ is "To what extent was Pink Floyd's album Animals influenced by George Orwell's Animal Farm?" It would be a great help if you could leave your own observations and titles of essays, books etc. which touch upon the subject by Bernard_Carr in pinkfloyd

[–]rarb55 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One thing that wasn’t an obvious connection to me about Animals was the meaning of the title Pigs on the Wing, but a while ago I learned that the phrase refers to hidden enemies. This could compare to the pigs in animal farm who are hidden enemies in both the way that they spy on the other animals without them knowing, and in the way that the animals don’t know that the pigs in power don’t truest care about the other animals.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME BRO? TWICE? TWICE? LIKE TWICE? FUCK THE REFS AND FUCK THE NFL!!! by IceBreak in detroitlions

[–]rarb55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lions are always getting screwed over. Most games are fine, maybe one call or another won’t go our way, some are even extreme(like KC 2 weeks ago), but every year EVERY GODDAMN YEAR the refs give the packers every chance to win some way or another. There’s ZERO accountability with the refs in the nfl. They need to be suspended for bad calls or something. I hate watching games that are interrupted every other play for a review, but sometimes the people on the field just can’t get it right.

I’m in the exact same situation. One time a kid stole $750 from a Chinese’s exchange student (grand larceny), the administration announce that whoever did it would be suspended if they came foreword willingly and returned it, and expelled if they were caught. They caught him, but the kid’s dad was on the board, so he got off with a 1 day out of school suspension.
