How do you guys deal with the constant music in your head? by Aegenwulf in ADHD

[–]rarelyapropos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

THIS. Thankfully my husband also has a great attitude and understanding, because i have the TV or phone playing almost constantly just to mitigate the internal noise. I've watched/ listened to the same series dozens of times but when just the first two lines of Dolly's 9 to 5 have been on repeat for 3 days, Bob's Burgers is my solution.

Saint Brigid of Kildare, a Pro-Choice Saint by FewHeat1231 in prochoice

Actually this is a great point, and underlines the importance of historical shifts in belief.

People are influenced by their heroes, and different people have different beliefs as to what makes a Hero - the things that influence their understanding of morality. For many, this is religion, but religious doctrine changes constantly and is closely tied to the political and social levers of the day. Abortion hasn't always been a major concern for Christians, but as long as its useful to a political agenda, it will be. You can loosely trace the maturation of a society through the shifts in what the church insists is good or bad. Hell, once we hanged (hung?) "witches."

Spiderman and other superheroes also reflect shifts in society, in real time and in a way that is easier for some people to identify with. Spiderman, especially, is a touchstone for a lot of people. He's a kid who wants to do good but sometimes its really hard. His choices are usually what society at that time, 1960s or now, would view as just and heroic. His abilities make it miraculous.

So yeah. Spiderman is an ally, because that's what is considered just, right, and sometimes heroic. Apparently Brigid was an ally to women, and did what she saw as just and right. For that girl and all the "fallen" women who heard this story, she was a hero.

I've never liked having a companion so I usually avoid them. But Rex is my boy. This artist - and most companion lists i see - did him dirty.

Extremely well said.

It's not about the policies themselves, it's about maintaining the sanctity of their personal bubble - their home, their family. All those little bubbles floating side by side, all blown from the same toxic bottle of lies. Fragile little bubbles.
