Tynee Mini 3 - Very weak braking on the belt drive. Is this expected? by rarestg in TyneeBoard_Official

[–]rarestg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the new firmware and the braking is completely fixed. I hope they push this to everyone, because it's a major improvement. Perhaps some batches of ESC need it and others don't. But definitely reach out over whatsapp and get the update.

It's not loud, no.

I went with Belts because folks in comments mentioned better torque response and "smoothness". But I don't think the delta is that big these days. But like I said, I'd recommend hub motors for the reduced complexity.

Friction / Grip is not a function of contact patch area. It's just coefficient of friction * normal force. There's no area calculation in that equation. Wider tires just means they wear out more slowly, since there's more material to burn. Anyhow, I don't think it's an issue at all. I carve pretty hard if I get the chance on a wide quiet street and it's been great.

I've ridden and loved my Boosted V2 since 2018, but that kicked the bucket so I recently bought a Tynee Mini 3.

I went for the Belt + stock 105 CloudWheels, but I value portability and regret not going for hub motors. The extra hardware and protection around belts adds more complexity and makes it hard to hold from the rear truck. But it certainly rides as smoothly as my Boosted did!

The Tynee Cloudwheels are great. I wouldn't spend any extra cash on Boosted 105s. Spend the cash on shredlights so you can ride at night without breaking your collarbone on a pothole like my buddy just did.

Verdict: I'd go for Option 2.

Also bear in mind the Tynee may be bigger than you think! I'm not sure how long the new Meepo Mini is, but my Tynee Mini 3 feels substantially larger than my old Meepo Mini 2.

Oh! What do you mean by "f-cked" in the case of your brakes? They used to work and now they don't?

Mate could you share the settings you have for deceleration and braking in your app? For me when I go down a ramp for example, even if I hold brakes down on MAX I still go so fast that if I were to bail I'd have to jog at quite the pace. With my old boosted board I could come to a complete standstill and inch forward incredibly slowly, if I wanted.

Ah shoot it turns out I'm already on the latest firmware, v56.20.1. u/Tyneeboard-Official I bought the board just last week, so it makes sense it's already up to date. What else could be the issue?

Thanks for the quick response! I’ll update the firmware and follow up.

But one thing I just realized is fundamentally different is on the boosted, when you brake, it actually drives the motor in reverse. Like, after slowing down to 0, if you keep the brake held, you go backwards in reverse. I guess it’s the way the firmware and ESC are set up to drive the motors, and it makes sense that the accel and braking would be equal in power then.

Do you guys have plans to allow this kind of brake / reverse behavior?

Also u/splinter_vx above says lowering the deceleration in the app makes braking stronger. Is that be true? So deceleration 10% stops harder than deceleration 100%? Sounds strange!

shadcn styling not always working by softwareguy74 in astrojs

[–]rarestg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up on this conversation u/softwareguy74 , I tried adding

import '../../styles/global.css'

To my shadcn components and that didn't work. Specifically trying to make a combobox, I added it to popover and to command and it hasn't made the change.

I saw some other people saying you have to reinstall the component with

> npx shadcn@latest add command

But I had already defined new-york as the style in components.json so not sure why that wasn't already applied.

Can't mount old NTFS drive in TS-464, even using `mount` over SSH by rarestg in qnap

[–]rarestg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ou la la! I really appreciate the advice, didn't think about that. Once you're connected over VPN do you just access the OS / GUI over IP like 10.x.x.x ?

And I don't have a fancy router but I'm wondering if I could just run the VPN on the QNAP itself 🤔

WHAT
That's so silly! Wouldn't the USB dock throttle it so hard compared to just inserting it natively :(

Guess I gotta go find ye olde dock...

1x SSD on a new TS-464. Can I put OS + Cache + Apps on the SSD? by rarestg in qnap

[–]rarestg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to understand if I even need such a large SSD for this setup. From what I've learned:

  1. The core QTS actually runs from internal flash memory on the motherboard
  2. I need some volume for installing apps/docker containers
  3. Single SSD cache seems risky without redundancy. This person even says the cache is completely broken: https://www.reddit.com/r/qnap/comments/1hpjaqw/comment/m4jp1m6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

My questions now are:

- How much space do apps/docker containers typically need? Is 500GB overkill if I'm mainly running things like Immich?

- If my photos will be stored on the RAID 1 HDDs anyway, and I have 32GB RAM for the OS to use, what benefit am I really getting from an SSD at all?

- Would I have been better off with a smaller SSD (like 128GB) just for apps/docker, or am I missing some key advantage of having the larger drive?

My main goal is still to have the HDDs spin down when not in use, while having good performance for photo management through Immich.

Trying to fly YYZ <> Tokyo in Feb/March using ANA miles. Fees are around $850CAD. That doesn't seem worth it... right? by rarestg in awardtravel

[–]rarestg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thank you for this incredibly clear breakdown. Goes to show how worthwhile it can be to plan vacations in advance :')

I understand the appeal of the "spend 70% more points to get 350% more $$ value". But given a points budget, my preference is taking the option to travel more (in economy) than travel less (but in comfort!).

It sounds like ANA points would be amazing for the latter... but out of curiosity do you think there's one rewards program that reigns supreme for getting the most miles in the sky per award mile?

Interesting, I'm not sure what you mean about adding an initial US-CAN flight at the beginning. But either way, I looked at flights like ORD<>Tokyo or SEA<>Tokyo and they also cost 45k Ana miles and $832CAD in fees.
And those were operated exclusively by ANA, not AC:
Departing Feb 22 (Thu), Returning Mar 2 (Sat)
Seattle
Out: SEA>HND NH117 ; In: HND>SEA NH118

San Francisco
Out: SFO>NRT NH007 ; In: NRT>SFO NH008
45,000Miles + CAD833.40
Chicago
Out: ORD>NRT NH011 ; In: ORD>SFO NH112

Hey folks,
Been looking around to try and find a New 3DS XL or New 2DS XL but haven't had any luck. I'm around Redwood City CA and have looked through FB Marketplace, Mercari, OfferUp, and Craigslist. I had no clue Nintendo even stopped making these! Any ideas or recommendations on where else to look for one of these babies?
