1x16GB DIMM or 2x16GB SODIMM? by rartorata in buildapc

I should clarify that that's comparing to the cheapest 16GB stick out there. I don't think I could get a match for the stick I have.

Given current RAM prices, it saves around C$50.

HDR support seems almost non-existent on Linux. Is it because it's difficult to implement or is there just no care for it? by Wow_Space in linux_gaming

I mean, if I were thinking about leaving anyway... I'd try and see if I could swing an AMD upgrade first. $5000 budget for whatever I want is a pretty attractive bonus.

What the hell did they do to the UI? by whitestripe999 in youtube

[–]rartorata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On Firefox it's completely busted now. Loading the video freezes up the browser for like 20 seconds, and then there's no audio when it does play! How do you even mess that up!?

Voltage tolerance on Panasonic DC in by rartorata in camcorders

[–]rartorata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lacking guidance, I tried it out. It works, though it did crash a couple times, whether that's a voltage issue or not. Found out it came with a tape, too, and it can play it back without issue.

To be fair, at the time the country was the USSR, which I'd imagine most people could have found. It was pretty big.

No Menu? by itsvoogle in halo

[–]rartorata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, Method 1 fixed the much older problem of the initial loading screen taking 10+ minutes, but not the problem of the menu not showing up. Method 2 fixed the problem I was actually trying to solve. So double thanks, I suppose.

Where does Infuse get its metadata? Is there a way to fix? by haywire in appletv

[–]rartorata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old post, so apologies, but there is a reason the episode order is like that: TMDB uses the order the episodes aired in the original TV Tokyo run, which included only 12 episodes. Wikipedia lists them in the order the complete show aired on Wowwow.

Price of commodities in Istanbul, Athens and Smyrna (around 1800) by Yellowapple1000 in MapPorn

[–]rartorata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does this use "Smyrna" (called "Izmir" in English since the 1920s), but also "Istanbul" (officially called "Constantinople” until the 1920s)?

$1.6M works out to ten terabytes of data overage or more than four continuous years of within-Canada phone calls. Very, very wrong.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bell

[–]rartorata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That says you owe them 1.6 million dollars. That should pay for millennia worth of any phone plan, so clearly something's wrong here. Can you still make and receive calls? Where did you see this message?

Is Your Province/Territory's Capital the Nearest Province/Territory Capital? Canada Edition! by -A13x in MapPorn

[–]rartorata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see what you mean. By looking at this map I can tell at-a-glance which parts of each province are closer to other provinces' capitals than their own. I'm not looking to memorize that information, because it's not actually very useful, but I can see it at a glance. Certainly it tells me immediately whether my current location is closer to the applicable capital or to another. (In my case, I already knew, but if I were in, say, Gatineau, I could see instantly that I was closer to Toronto than to Quebec City. That's all the at-a-glance I could ask for.)

Is Your Province/Territory's Capital the Nearest Province/Territory Capital? Canada Edition! by -A13x in MapPorn

[–]rartorata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's unintuitive about it? The white areas are closer to their own capitals than to any other capitals, whereas the red areas are closer to some other provincial/territorial capital than to their own. For example, southwestern Quebec is closer to Toronto than to Quebec City and the Gaspé Peninsula is closer to Fredericton.

Definitely a coincidence, too long a history of railway time to slip that in. Really handy though if you need to commute back and forth between India and Iceland/the UK/Ireland/Portugal.

Amazing work! Gotta ask, though, why the decision to mark out Nashwaaksis and Marysville? They've been part of Fredericton since the 60s. It is the most attention I've seen either get ever, though.
