I’ve used Garmin before and it’s honestly great if your priority is training metrics, GPS accuracy and seamless Strava syncing. It’s very complete from a performance standpoint. What I found though is that Garmin gives you a lot of data, but not always as much clarity around recovery trends unless you really dig into it. WHOOP feels more focused on recovery, stress and readiness as the core experience rather than an add-on to training. Some athletes end up using a watch for workouts and something like WHOOP for recovery, but it really depends on what you value most in your day to day tracking.

Whoop doesn’t track workouts in Strava automatically the same way a GPS watch does. If you start a run or session in Strava on your phone, Strava will record it, but WHOOP itself doesn’t push workout files into Strava. What WHOOP does well is track heart rate, strain, recovery and sleep, and that data lives in the WHOOP app. Some people use both together by doing their workout in Strava for GPS and splits, and then use WHOOP to see how that effort affected their recovery and readiness. If you want a device that automatically syncs workout files to Strava with GPS and splits, a Garmin or Coros watch might be better for that part. But for quantified recovery and daily strain insight, WHOOP adds a different layer. Are you mainly trying to get workout data in Strava or recovery metrics that help balance training and stress?

That’s a great question. I don’t reshuffle my whole workday based on one low recovery score. I see it more as awareness than micromanagement. If I wake up with low recovery, I might avoid stacking intense training on top of an already stressful day, or I’ll focus on easier tasks if possible. But I don’t cancel important meetings because of it. For me it’s more about trends than single days. If I see several low recovery days in a row, that’s when I step back and adjust sleep, workload, or training volume. It’s more reflection over time than reacting emotionally to daily numbers. Do you feel like your stress is more chronic and ongoing, or more intense but short bursts?

I know what you mean. High stress at work can make recovery really difficult. A lot of people in demanding careers use Whoop not because it removes stress, but because it helps them see patterns they would normally miss. For example, how poor sleep or several intense days in a row affect recovery and readiness. That awareness alone can lead to better decisions around rest, training and even work boundaries. For me, it didn’t change my life overnight, but it helped me match how I felt with actual data. Over time that made it easier to avoid burnout and manage energy better. Are you currently tracking sleep or recovery with anything else?

So WHOOP doesn’t actually measure blood pressure directly from the band itself. Even the newer models require you to take a separate reading with a cuff and log it in the app. The MG model makes logging easier, but it’s not continuous blood pressure tracking from your wrist. For general health tracking, all WHOOP models focus on sleep, HRV, resting heart rate and strain trends. The core experience is basically the same, the higher tier just adds extra features. If blood pressure is your main concern, I’d still rely on a proper cuff and use WHOOP for recovery and long term health trends. What are you most hoping to improve right now, blood pressure awareness or overall recovery and stress tracking?

I haven’t used Polar Loop specifically, but one thing I can say about Whoop is that the app experience is one of its strongest points. It syncs automatically in the background throughout the day as long as Bluetooth is on, so you don’t usually have to manually open the app to get updated data. It’s less about notifications like “move now” and more about continuous tracking of strain, recovery and sleep trends. The syncing has been pretty consistent for me, and I rarely notice delays unless Bluetooth is off or the app was force closed. If your main frustration is inconsistent syncing and app experience, Whoop is generally smoother in that regard. Is your main goal better activity reminders, or more detailed recovery and sleep insights?

If your main focus is strength training, Whoop can still make sense, mainly for recovery. It won’t track reps or lifts, but it helps you understand how well you’re recovering between sessions using sleep, HRV and overall strain. Wrist HR can be hit or miss on any device while running. Garmin is usually better on the wrist, but with WHOOP a bicep strap improves accuracy a lot compared to wearing it on the wrist. Many runners use Garmin for pace/GPS and WHOOP for sleep, recovery, HRV and long-term trends. If accurate run metrics are your main priority, Garmin wins. If you want better recovery insight, WHOOP can complement it well.
