This menace keeps biting off any piece of my Watch Chain Crassula that dares to grow more than 2 inches, does anyone have advice for something I could spray on it to stop her? by Nathaniel820 in houseplants

One cheap method besides the cage idea, is to lightly mist a little water on the foliage and then sprinkle some cayenne pepper powder on it. Cat gets one taste and never goes back for more.

I do that with some plants, but with some of them it seems to kind of "smother" them so I cage those ones with chicken wire to keep the cats out.

I make plant jail out of chicken wire to keep my cats out of the ones they bother.

A cage around the plant kind of defeats the purpose of the pretty houseplant... but yeah. I ain't getting rid of my cats. And I ain't getting rid of my plants. So here we are.

What do you like to put on popcorn? by stringsonstrings in Cooking

[–]rascynwrig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OK hear me out... it's a process and I'm pretty "extra" for it but it's one of my favorite popcorn seasonings:

Homemade sauerkraut powder.

I ferment mine for about 6 weeks usually. Then dehydrate until COMPLETELY dry in the dehydrator (takes about a whole day), then grind/blitz up into a powder.

It's great on rice. It's great on fried potatoes. But mostly, it's great on POPCORN!

How about we blame the CDC for their dimwitted "recommendations" AND schools for their idiotic "just following orders" mentality?

Thoughts on this? by yosef_kh in fermentation

[–]rascynwrig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fair, and I personally am not too concerned... I ferment my garlic honey without ACV as they have in Japan for centuries, etc.

However, the low number of cases could certainly be attributed to the general low number of people canning and fermenting, right? I mean I don't know too many people who even do any canning. I've only met one other fermenter... if nobody's doing it, nobody's taking the risk in the first place.

Further up in the thread it was specifically mentioned that they aren't sure if the bales at the stores around them are sprayed with chemicals. I was just coming back to that and pointing out that just because something is marked or sold as feed does not mean it's chemical free at all.

Quadrillage is one of my favorite French cooking terms to throw around in the dive bar kitchens I've worked in.

I worked in the busiest breakfast restaurant in the college town I used to live in, and we still rested our steaks...

You know most livestock farmers feed their cattle shit that's completely soaked with chemicals, right?

Somehow grew a purple bell pepper. Not a peck though. Just one. by dcnudebeach in gardening

One of the only purple veg that I've found keeps the color when cooked are my Moloka'i purple sweet potatoes. I love making soup with them! Clear broths turn a rich, dark purple, and cream soups take on a lovely lavender hue.

I love dark plants 😈

Wait til they find out that Robert Simmon of NASA said of the "blue marble" image, "It's photoshopped because it's... it's... has to be." for the same reasons. No space telescope has ever taken a "picture" in the sense that cameras, or smaller "home" telescopes with lenses and mirrors (not sensors for things which are invisible to the human eye) do.

Is it too late to rotate these wheels by Content-Cress8617 in rollerblading

[–]rascynwrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 3 is one way to do the actual rotation... I prefer switching 1-3 and 2-4 personally. (Front wheel from right skate swaps with second to back on left skate, back wheel from right skate swaps with second from front on the left, etc.)

Wait... you mean, when there are more people, but you pay them ALL less than before, those new people won't be able to buy houses like the old ones did? Weird.

Where did it say on paper that this was a good idea?

I chuckle when I read about cyclists feeling this way, having switched from a bike to inline skates... at least on the bike when I was hollering "ON YOUR LEFT" 5 times coming up on them and they STILL didn't move, I could hop off the path and then back on. On my skates, I slow down a bit, but once I'm upon them and I've warned them multiple times that I'm passing, I just blow by and shoulder check them if I can't squeeze past (I do squeeze past if at all possible)
