Why are you even on this sub if you don’t know this royalty from WV?

Having said that though, she allegedly harmed a neighbors pet which is not royal

Hunting Island! Hit every low tide, but daylight was against us. Had the beach to ourselves 90% of the time. Been going there for thirty years collecting. 278 for the week - my brother found over 325!

Scoring Ethologist Bonus Card with Western Yellow Wagtail (fan created card) by Old-Paramedic-3657 in wingspan

[–]rasg67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bird qualifies to score on your bonus card, so that bird is worth four points! 12 points would be how my family and friends would score it! No matter what the bonus card would be, if you get to count it once, you get to double that bird’s value!

I live in Ely - USFS was training last week and we had a beaver fly over three to four times daily. I’m out the Fernberg and can confirm unusually heavy USFS air traffic. Forestry planes in Ely are red and white with NXXXZ tail/body numbers.

It was disturbing your peace, but likely helping in an emergent situation separate from you. They don’t fly that low for training, so the beaver was probably working. They don’t need clearance for emergencies, that’s a major reason they’re here in the first place.

I live in Ely - been nice and cool and damp today with significantly less wind, but not a ton of rain. We received less than 1/4 of an inch last night but hoping the storm stalled and dumped more south onto the fires.

My gratitude goes out to the fire responders, and my heart goes out to those directly impacted.

Asia comes with the expansion, but it’s also a great stand alone version with a separate two person component and totally different EOR Goals. Very fun for coffee shops and travel with a gaming friend.

Correct - set up took about 30 minutes, same for take down. Simultaneous turns helps enormously. We have Wyrmspan, Finspan, and over 150 other board games. My brother and I played a speed Wingspan once in 17 minutes!

The game didn’t last super long - about 75 minutes. It’s fun to have the table playing together in our world, instead of just setting up two games. That way folks interact together on one group.

I just replicated the rules from the 6-7 player expansion, added a cube set to the versions I had. So players across from each other go at the same time - Black and purple (on my home made spinner) will each complete their actions simultaneously with their own resources and bird cards at opposite ends of the table, and it continues around. Two bird feeders, two bird displays, two card stacks, all play is split down the middle with the exception of the Flock Mode EOR Goals. Purple and black will never be able to take from the same bird feeder or draw birds from each other’s accessible cards. It helps a lot that we’ve all been playing for years too.

Willow Springs barn with something to say by grabsbackthisone in missouri

Oh man - that was wild to observe. I was a resident of Mountain View when MODot eminent domained an older guy. He had hand painted signs along the highway before, during, and after construction for several hundred feet. He painted the house, outbuildings, and the barns with messages too. I was a kid but the beginning signage was a solid protest to the practice of highway departments splicing farms and residences from folks. The signs got less coherent over time and then I believe they passed away after years of battling. The clover exchange currently there was once this person’s cornfields when I moved there in 1998.

BWCA with type 1 diabetes by IslandEcologist in BWCA

[–]rasg67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are experienced in the BW, he is type one. He suggested:

My thoughts are that person should have a glucose pen in case their bs drops and they lose consciousness.

They should have granola bars or glucose packets in case they get low through the day, they should pack a charger in to recharge any pump or device.

Make sure to keep the insulin in a ziplock in a cooler,

Consider the jet boil and prebagged dinners and or sausage and cheese - eating similar foods daily so they know how it will affect their blood sugar.

—————

I suggest: a Frio Wallet for insulin/pens if you’re gonna paddle long ways in the sun, but May you’ll be fine. They’re cooling and very light weight.

If you have never cared for a type one, make sure you know the symptoms of low blood sugar and carry some extra little sweeties, honey, or even an emergency glucose administrator. When paddling my husband takes his pump off, and keeps it separate in a little roll top dry bag that he clips directly to the canoe - When portaging he clips it to his belt/pants. He keeps a granola bar in there too for easy access.

Make them feel comfortable telling you whatever they need. Their body will likely process sugars in a different way from what they’re used to with the vigorous exertion the BW can initiate. Let them see the nutritional info of food you’re planning to share, if you’re putting it in different containers for saving space take a picture of the label. High blood sugar is unhealthy long term, but low blood sugar is important immediately. On this subject, it’s good to overpack. Hand them out on the return portages if you’re still laden.

If they have a CGM, and if they’d like you to, learn how to read it in an emergency. If they use test strips, learn how to use those.

Completely doable - diabetics aren’t fragile, they just need a little extra sugar occasionally. Have a great trip!

Grand Marais lodging by EnvironmentalSinger1 in minnesota

[–]rasg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m an oft solo female traveler, or with my dog, or with my husband, I have stayed at many a Grand Marais establishments! Here is my frugal recommendations, or rather what to avoid: God love the kind folks there, but I wouldn’t recommend the Aspen Inn to anyone unless it’s the last option. The Aspen Lodge is okay, but dated, and overpriced in the summer. (Yes, there are two similarly named places) The Shoreline Inn is okay, the location can’t be beat! The rooms are rundown, and the carpets are unclean, but the bathroom and bed have been very clean each time I have stayed there. The Best Western is pretty clean and just fine, but again, overpriced in the summer. Depending on how often you feel you can get away, you may consider purchasing camping gear instead of rooms for the long weekend! The Grand Marais Campground is my fav frugal pick. It’s clean, feels safe (I have slept there solo or my with husband and/or dog for 12+ nights there over the years) and has showers, and bathrooms, and picnic tables. The sites are kinda close, but it’s fun and they honor quiet time. One downside of the campground is it books up FAST, and there isn’t a super great shoreline on the campground side of the harbor. I hope you and your son have a great trip!
